Sony FE 14mm F1.8 GM Bright Ultra-wide Angle Lens for Full-frame Alphas

After Sony had already presented the bright FE 35mm F1.4 G Master and the even faster FE 50mm F1.2 G Master as well as a trio of compact fixed focal lengths with 2.8 aperture in the few months of this year, the number two is launched the mirrorless with the FE 14mm F1.8 GM (SEL14F18GM) their strongest wide angle to the 35mm full format cameras of the Alpha 1/7/9 lines.

With the 14mm ultra-wide angle with a speed of 1.8, Sony is expanding its range of full-frame lenses with E-mount at the lower end of the focal length scale. Even more wide angles are only available with manual focus from third-party providers.

The new Sony FE 14mm F1.8 GM is relatively compact and light despite its high light intensity. Even when the aperture is fully open, the UWW should offer a high degree of sharpness right into the corners and – especially for fans of nocturnal landscape shots with a starry sky – deliver maximum image quality. The aperture can be deactivated for stepless and noiseless aperture adjustment (e.g. during video recordings) via a switch (DeClick mode)

With the compact ultra-wide-angle lens with a large F1.8 aperture, photographers can capture the world from new perspectives, especially when taking pictures of landscapes, buildings, the starry sky, and interiors.

The new FE 14mm F1.8 GM is characterized by a compact optical construction. The lens measures only 83 x 99.8 millimeters and weighs only 460 grams. Thanks to its highly developed optical technology, it guarantees excellent resolution and breathtaking contrasts. Two XA elements (extremely aspherical) ensure excellent resolution over the entire image area up to the edge and contribute to the fact that the lens can be kept compact and light. Two ED glass elements (Extra-low Dispersion) and one Super ED glass elements minimize chromatic aberrations and guarantee excellent contrast and precise reproduction at all apertures.

Thanks to a maximum aperture of F1.8, users can, for example, authentically photograph celestial objects such as stars or take pictures in other dimly lit environments without having to work with extremely long shutter speeds. When shooting in difficult lighting conditions, Sony’s original AR Nano-Coating II reduces flare and ghosting to produce clear, sharp images.
