Sony FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens Announced

As we expected, Sony has finally announced the new Sony FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM (SEL1224GM model) GMaster series lens with ultra-high resolution, specifically designed for full-frame cameras with E-mount. According to the manufacturer, this ultra wide angle zoom lens is ideal for landscapes, night scenes, and architecture, while providing mobility for sports shooting with a versatile zoom.

The new design has 17 elements in 14 groups, including three XA elements, one aspherical lens, two Super ED elements (with ultra-low dispersion), and three ED elements for high resolution over the entire range of increase and suppression of chromatic aberration. The lens is coated with Sony Nano AR Coating II to eliminate glare and ghosting. A focus hold button is present on the lens barrel for intuitive tactile control and rapid access to select settings.

The front element has a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other impurities while facilitating the erasure of any impurities or fingerprints. An XD Linear Motor system uses four separate motors—two per focusing group—along with an internal focusing design to provide quick, quiet, and precise autofocus and tracking performance. The floating mechanism not only provides high performance but also sharpness when shooting objects at any distance. Filters can be inserted into the rear lens holder.

The Sony FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM will be available from August 13, 2020, at a suggested retail price of $2,998 and is now available to pre-order via the Bhphotovideo.com online shop.
