Sonos Sub 3 Wireless Subwoofer and Sonos Five Wireless Speaker Kit Announced

The Sonos Sub has not changed since its introduction back in 2012, and the second generation Play 5 was introduced back in 2015. Although the two products are so old, Sonos hasn’t changed anything visible or audible in the latest update.

Sonos Sub 3 Wireless Subwoofer

After Sonos introduced a completely newly developed Arc Dolby Atmos Soundbar, there are also successors for the Play 5 wireless speaker kit and the Sub ($599 on Bhphoto and Amazon). The latter has been unchanged in the market for almost eight years because the “second generation” brought only minimal cosmetic adjustments without technological innovations.

Apart from a name change from Play 5 to Sonos Five and a white speaker grill for the version in White, there seem to be no important changes. Sonos writes in its press release that you can expect “the same great sound experience” that you already know from previous models. In these new wifi speakers wireless system, Sonos didn’t even add microphones for the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, although the voice assistants are supported by some of the company’s newer speakers, such as the One Gen 2 ($194.95 on Amazon and $199 on Bhphoto).

Sonos just increased the amount of built-in memory and increased processor performance. However, customers should hardly notice a difference because the previous models also receive an update to the Sonos S2 platform. This model update looks more like Sonos is already planning an S3 platform, which will then inevitably leave the older models behind – therefore the new versions should be able to be used without restrictions for at least a few years longer.

Sonos Five Wireless Speaker

Coming to the Sonos Sub Gen 3, new Sonos Subwoofer without cord also offers more storage space and better performance with the same great sound experience. The Wireless Subwoofer has long been a popular extension of the Sonos Sound System to give streaming content powerful bass – beyond the general performance of Sonos speakers.

The new Sonos Sub 3 Subwoofer Speaker offers the same popular design and the same powerful bass. It connects to your system via Wi-Fi or Ethernet and features a dual-driver design to help eliminate unwanted vibration and distortion.

Price and availability

The Sonos Sub 3 will be available worldwide from June 10 for a suggested retail price of $699, as it is already listed on the Bhphotovideo.com online shop in Black and White color options.

The Sonos Five wireless speakers are also listed on the Bhphotovideo.com online store in the same Black and White colors. These new Sonos outdoor speakers will also be available from June 10 at a price of $499.
