Lenovo’s IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 has updated with the new 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus SoC, which promises better efficiency and longer battery life. The IdeaPad 5 14Q8X9 also packs a 1920x1200p OLED display, 400 nits brightness in HDR mode, and 16GB of RAM into its 14-inch thin chassis.

At IFA 2024, Lenovo updated several of its IdeaPad and Yoga laptops and convertibles with the latest 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus technologies, introducing the new ARM processors to the mainstream and premium segments. One of the more affordable options is the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 2-in-1, now available for purchase.

The new IdeaPad 5 14″ is what you’d expect from a thin and light Lenovo laptop, with a 1.5kg, 18.9mm-thin metal chassis and a 14-inch 16:10 aspect ratio. The 1920x1200p OLED display should give the IdeaPad Slim 5x a premium feel without impacting battery life too much, thanks to a moderate resolution and reasonable 400 nits of brightness.

The integrated Qualcomm Adreno GPU powers the 14″ OLED touchscreen, allowing you to view HDR content with Dolby Vision support. Productivity potential is bolstered by 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD.

The aforementioned efficiency and battery life seem to be at the heart of these latest devices from Lenovo. While the IdeaPad 5 14Q8X9 only has a modest 57Wh battery, it does feature one of the most energy-efficient Snapdragon SoCs, LPDDR5X RAM, and a 60Hz OLED display. It seems to be making some compromises in the name of battery life, so it will be interesting to see how that fares in the reviews.

Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14Q8X9 price and availability

The new Lenovo IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 Copilot+ PC is available for $899.99 on Bhphotovideo.com and Newegg.com online stores.

There are no sacrifices on its ports, 2-in-1 laptop with HDMI port, dual USB Type-C port for data and charging alongside a 3.5mm audio jack, and two USB Type-A ports – presumably of the USB 3.2 10Gbps variety, although Lenovo hasn’t specified. There’s also a microSD card slot, which might disappoint photo editors who want to take advantage of the display’s wide color gamut, as a full-size SD card slot is far more useful for professional work.

Lenovo also introduced the ThinkBook 16p G5, featuring the innovative Magic Bay expansion and the latest 14th-generation Intel Core i HX processors. Now available at B&H, prices start at $1,596.95.
