Microsoft unveiled the first Surface Laptop based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite. The powerful ARM chip should enable the notebook to outperform the MacBook Air based on the Apple M3, both in terms of battery life and performance.
Along with the new Copilot+ branding for the next generation of AI laptops, Microsoft also introduced the Copilot+ Surface Laptop, a direct competitor to the Apple MacBook Air 2024 based on Qualcomm’s latest ARM chip, the Snapdragon X Elite. The chip is said to make the Surface Laptop 80 percent faster than its immediate predecessor.
The notebook is available with either a 13.8-inch or a 15-inch touchscreen, and in each case, the panel achieves an impressive brightness of 600 nits. The webcam is located at the top of the screen instead of in a notch like Apple’s. The display supports Dolby Vision IQ. Just like the MacBook Air, the new Surface Laptop also offers a haptic multi-touch trackpad, and the battery life is said to be even longer at 22 hours when playing a video.
Microsoft highlights that the Copilot+ Surface Laptop can connect to three external 4K monitors, along with its own display. In contrast, the MacBook Air with Apple M3 can only support one external display in addition to its internal screen. The Copilot+ Surface Laptop offers up to 32 GB of RAM and supports Wi-Fi 7. Microsoft offers the seventh-generation Surface Laptop in blue, silver, gold, and black. Customers can now pre-order the notebook from Bhphotovideo.com. The 13.8-inch base model with Snapdragon X Plus, 16 GB RAM, and 256 GB SSD costs $1,299.
The 15-inch model, exclusive to Snapdragon X Elite, starts at $2,099.99 for 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD.
