Sirui recently launched the 40mm T1.8 1.33x S35 autofocus anamorphic lens, which is now available for pre-order at the B&HPhoto store. It is designed for Sony E, Nikon Z, Fujifilm X, and Micro Four Thirds cameras. The optics are compact and relatively light (614 grams), have a 1.33x compression ratio, and feature STM-based autofocus.

Sirui is systematically developing the capabilities of anamorphic optics. Dimensions are decreasing; lenses are becoming cheaper.
Sirui engineers have now added autofocus systems to optics of this type. At the same time, the external design of the Sirui 40mm T1.8 1.3x anamorphic cinema lens looks quite stylish.
At the same time, Sirui notes that images obtained using wide-angle anamorphic lenses are becoming increasingly popular due to their aesthetic qualities: glare and bokeh. For these reasons, the company focuses on this type of lens.
The high-performance 1.33x optics are designed for Super35 cinema and hybrid mirrorless cameras with APS-C format matrices. The lens weighs 614 grams and allows shooting with an aspect ratio of 16:9, and then “squeezing” the image 1.33 times at the post-production stage to obtain frames in the 2.35:1 format.
The new Sirui 40mm T1.8 1.3x is the first compact anamorphic autofocus lens to feature an advanced STM motor. The manufacturer promises fast, silent, and smooth autofocus. Marketing materials also highlight that the lens supports advanced eye autofocus with real-time tracking.
Users can choose between automatic and manual focus using a switch on the body. Additionally, the Sony E and Nikon Z mount versions include an AF lock button. The lens’s minimum focusing distance is 0.6 meters. Neutral or blue highlights are available, depending on the shooting planned for the new optics from Sirui.
Sirui 40mm T1.8 1.33x price and release date
You can currently pre-order the lens on the Bhphotovideo website for $799. It supports Sony E, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, and Micro Four-Thirds mounts.
The manufacturer claims the new Sirui 40mm T1.8 1.3x anamorphic cine lens with autofocus will provide high image quality and control over aberrations.
Optically, the cinema lens consists of 16 elements arranged in 12 groups, six of which are unique. It has an 11-blade aperture, and the aperture control ring supports smooth video shooting and photo-clicking.
The lens has an extensive 360-degree focus ring travel for more precise focus adjustment, an 80-mm front diameter, and a standard tooth arrangement.
It is curious that, judging by the published photographs, the new anamorphic from Sirui is practically identical in size to the previously released analogs from the Blazar 50mm T1.8 APEX 1.33x Anamorphic autofocus lens.
