Sigma launches 50mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens for Sony E and Leica L mount

Sigma has expanded its line of Art lenses with the Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens for Sony E and Leica L-mount. This is the fifth lens in the Sigma line of the DG DN Art series. Among other focal lengths, there are also 20mm, 24mm, 35mm, and portrait 85mm lenses in the lineup.

Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens

Autofocus on the Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG DN Art is controlled by a High Response Linear Actuator (HLA) system, the first use of a linear motor in the Art line, following its introduction in the recently released Sigma 60-600mm DG DN Sport zoom lens.

Using the HLA motor makes autofocus faster and quieter, according to Sigma. Combined with the fast F/1.4 aperture, this feature will be especially useful when recording video.

The lens has been specially designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras (DG = full frame, DN = mirrorless). Sigma says the new 50mm lens meets the company’s highest standards for “artistic” lenses: fast and near-silent autofocus, all-weather protection, manual iris ring with click/de-click options, aperture lock switch, AFL button, accurate bokeh, and lens hood with a lock button.

The new Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens has eleven rounded aperture blades. They provide smoother and rounder bokeh. The optical design of the lens consists of 14 elements in 11 groups, including 3 aspherical lenses and 1 SLD glass element.

The length of the lens is 110 mm, the diameter is 78 mm, the filter thread is 72 mm, weight is 670 grams.

The new Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens will go on sale at the end of February 2023, and it can be pre-ordered via Bhphotovideo.com and Adorama.com stores for a suggested retail price of $849.
