Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN II Art Zoom Lens Announced

Sigma has introduced an updated version of the 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN II Art zoom lens, which is 7% more compact and 10% lighter than the previous model while having an aperture ring and additional controls. Crucially, Sigma compares the optical performance of the new lens with existing prime lenses at comparable settings. Sony E-Mount and L-Mount mounts.

The focal length range of 24–70 mm, which is beloved by many photographers and camera operators alike, when combined with the f/2.8 aperture, has truly become a classic. This combination of wide angle, moderate telephoto, and high aperture opens up a broad array of possibilities. Indeed, this lens’ wide-to-telephoto range and high aperture offer immense versatility for various creative applications.

Like any Sigma Art lens, the 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN II Art has a rugged design, but unlike the previous model, it does away with the controls that housed the AF/MF switch and others, and now uses more compact switches located around the lens barrel. The front element remains large, with an 82mm filter thread. The lens weighs 745g, down from the previous model’s 835g, and is dust and weather-resistant.

The optical design of the 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN II consists of 19 elements in 15 groups, including 5 aspherical elements, 6 FLD, and 2 SLD glass. The aperture has 11 circular blades, providing a circular bokeh pattern at any aperture setting. The minimum focusing distance ranges from 17 cm at the wide-angle end to 34 cm at the telephoto end. The company talks about the minimal “breathing” effect of the focus.

Price and release date

The Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN II Art lens is now available for pre-order at $1,199 on both Bhphotovideo and Adorama. It is scheduled to be released on May 31, 2024.

The lens has three control rings – focus, zoom, and a separate aperture ring. The aperture ring has both a lock switch and a click controller, in other words, there is a click-free operation mode. There is also a lock switch attached to the zoom ring, and two function buttons are located on the top and left of the body. A petal-shaped lens hood will not be superfluous at all.
