Sigma 20mm F1.4 and 24mm F1.4 Art lenses announced

Sigma has introduced two new ART series lenses for Sony E-mount and Leica L-mount cameras. These are Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG DN Art and Sigma 24mm F1.4 DG DN Art lenses.

The optical design of this lens consists of 17 elements in 14 groups, including two low dispersion (FLD) elements, one extra-low dispersion (SLD) element, and four aspherical elements. Sigma also uses a variety of proprietary optical coatings, including a nanoporous coating (NPC) and a water-oil repellent coating on the front element of the lens.

Internal autofocus is controlled by a stepper motor, according to the manufacturer. In addition, it is compatible with Sony AF Assist functions. It is also reported that on supported L-mount cameras, the lens will work in both linear and non-linear response modes of the focus ring.

The lens has physical rings for focusing and changing the aperture. A switch on the lens barrel can enable or disable the clicks, as well as disable the aperture ring on demand. In addition, there is an MFL manual focus lock switch. It turns off the focus ring after you have achieved optimal focus on the subject.

Other optical design features of the new Art Line lens include an 11-blade rounded blade diaphragm, an aperture range of F/1.4 to F/16, and a minimum focusing distance of 25cm. The filter thread is 72mm in diameter. The lens is protected from dust and moisture.

The Sony E-mount version is 75.7mm in diameter, 97.5mm long, and weighs 510g, while the L-mount version is 2mm shorter but weighs 10g more.

Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG DN Art

Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG DN Art for L and Sony E mount cameras is the successor to the already released 20mm F1.4 DG HSM for DSLRs and comes with a set of unique features. The manufacturer claims that this lens is ideal for Astro and landscape photography.

The optical design of the lens consists of 17 elements in 15 groups, including two elements with extra-low dispersion (SLD), and three aspherical elements, and is noticeably different from its counterpart for SLR cameras. Also in the optical design is a pair of double-sided aspherical elements, which the company claims contribute to high optical performance across the frame.

Also, the optics received a Sigma nanoporous coating (NPC), as well as a water and oil repellent coating. The new lens reportedly uses an 11-blade, rounded-bladed aperture with an aperture range of F/1.4 to F/16, and a minimum focusing distance of 23cm. It has 82mm filter thread.

The internal autofocus system is driven by a stepper motor. The lens is fully compatible with Sony’s autofocus functions. In addition, there is a physical aperture ring, which is controlled smoothly or with clicks (the mode is changed using a special switch).

The lens is also equipped with other features that include a focus mode switch, a rear filter holder, and a new manual focus lock (MFL) switch to disable the focus ring. Sigma has also included for the first time a heater lock on the front of the lens for users who want to avoid condensation when working in cold conditions.

The lens barrel is made from a combination of aluminum and heat-resistant composite – TSC. The manufacturer claims that the lens is protected from dust and moisture.

The Sony E-mount version of the lens is 87.8mm in diameter, 113.2mm long, and weighs 630g. The L-mount version is slightly shorter, weighing 5g more.

Recently, Sigma introduced a new lens – a full-frame fast zoom lens. It turned out to be quite light (450 grams), and relatively compact: length – 101 mm, diameter – 77 mm. At the same time, due to the internal zoom system, the Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN lens is suitable for shooting from drones and stabilizers.
