Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN lens for Sony E and Leica L mount

Sigma has finally introduced a new lens – a full-frame fast zoom lens. It turned out to be quite light (450 grams), and relatively compact: length – 101 mm, diameter – 77 mm. At the same time, due to the internal zoom system, the Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN lens is suitable for shooting from drones and stabilizers.

According to Sigma, the new lens can compete with F4 optics and a similar range of focal lengths. Optical scheme of the lens: 16 elements in 11 groups. Of these, 5 fluorite-like elements and 4 aspherical lenses. The minimum focusing distance is 25cm. The maximum magnification ratio is 1:5.6x. The aperture of the new lens is nine-bladed.

The Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN lens utilizes a complex arrangement of specialized aspherical and low dispersion glass elements to effectively suppress chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy. Super Multi-Layer and Nano Porous Coatings have also been applied to improve contrast and color rendering by reducing lens flare and ghosting when working in strong lighting conditions.

The inner zoom & focus mechanism keeps the dimensions of the lens constant throughout the zoom range and at all focus distances. This design feature allows for almost no balance point shift and a fixed front element, making it an ideal instrument for videography, travel, and landscape photography.

Price and availability

The new Sigma zoom lens will be available at the end of June 2022 for $899, and it can be pre-ordered through the Bhphotovideo.com and Adorama.com websites. The lens will become the main competitor of the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD with Sony E mount.
