NAMM 2021: Sequential launches Prophet-5 and Prophet-10 Voice Synthesizers

It was only a matter of time: after Sequential caused a sensation last fall with the Prophet-5 and Prophet-10 Rev4, the desktop versions of the two voice synthesizer models are now following as expected. Both synthesizers are now also available in compact versions for those who don’t need a keyboard.

Sequential Prophet-5 and Prophet-10 Voice Synthesizer

The desktop versions of the Prophet-5 and Prophet-10 Rev4 were generally expected – after all, the manufacturer had also released the Prophet-6, OB-6, and Prophet Rev2 in compact module versions. And now a happy day for everyone who wants to bring a Prophet-5 or Prophet-10 into the studio, but prefer a table version without a keyboard.

While Sequential was forced to forego controls or to combine functions with some other desktop modules, the desktop versions of the Prophet-5 and Prophet-10 offer all the controls and buttons that are also found on the keyboard versions. The control panels have been rearranged a bit and smaller buttons are used, but you don’t have to do without anything.

As far as the sound generation is concerned, the two modules correspond exactly to the keyboard versions. That means five or ten voices with analog VCOs, filters, and VCAs. You can switch between the filters of the Rev3 (Curtis) and Rev1 / 2 (SSM). For modulation, there is an LFO and the Poly Mod section, which is a trademark of the Prophet. The vintage control with which the oscillators, filters, and envelopes can be taught analog inaccuracies, is of course available.

On the connection side, the desktop modules have MIDI and USB connections as well as CV and gate inputs and outputs, so that they can also be integrated into analog setups. There are also three-pedal connections for release (sustain), filter cutoff, and volume, as well as a headphone and audio output.

Prices and availability

Both Sequential Prophet-5 and Prophet-10 voice synthesizer models are now available to pre-order on the Bhphotovideo.com website. Pricing is $3,499 for the Prophet-5 Desktop Module and $4,299 for the Prophet-10 Desktop Module.
