Samyang Optics announces the VDSLR MK2 series as an updated entry-level cine lens that has been expanded to include new functions. The MK2 set includes four of the most commonly used focal lengths: 24mm T1.5, 35mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5, and 85mm T1.5. The new Samyang lenses have a weather seal, 9 aperture blades and their focal length information is visible on both sides. The new Samyang VDSLR MK2 series comes onto the market with the four most important focal lengths: 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm. The series will also be supplemented with a 14mm T3.1 in the first quarter of 2021. All four lenses are also suitable for both DSLR and mirrorless camera systems.
The compact size of the VDSLR Samyang lenses proves to be very suitable for handheld, gimbal, and tripod recordings.
The VDSLR 50mm T1.5 MK2, for example, is only 7.47cm long and weighs only 525.8 g, but is still equipped with De-Clicked aperture and focus gear rings. The long angle of rotation of the focus setting of more than 130° makes it possible to focus precisely on the subject, which results in more professional video recordings than with autofocus photo lenses.
The new Samyang lenses excel in full format sensors (36 x 24 mm) and are therefore equally suitable for all video formats. All four lenses have aspherical lens elements to reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations. The 50mm lens also has an aspherical hybrid lens element, which reduces the size of the lens.
The VDSLR MK2 series has a high initial aperture of T1.5 in all four models, which enables use in low-light situations for atmospheric scenes as well as the reduction of the depth of field with a delicately blurred background.
The new VDSLR MK2 series has been updated with 9 aperture blades and is able to deliver the latest image trends. The smooth and circular bokeh adds a three-dimensional quality and pleasing out-of-focus effect. 18-ray starburst highlights can also be created by stopping down to small apertures.
The MK2 series includes a weather-sealing feature. This protects the most vulnerable gap between the lens and camera mount, to prevent dust, light rain, and snow from penetrating. It provides the ability to capture stunning images in less than perfect conditions.

Back in June, Samyang has introduced MF 14mm F2.8 MK2 Wide Angle Lens and MF 85mm F1.4 MK2 Portrait Lens for full-frame DSLRs and are offered with the Canon EF and Nikon F mounts, the lenses are also available with mounts for mirrorless cameras with image sensors in full format, APS-C and MFT format.
