Samsung has officially unveiled its newest foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G. The device is not only more robust than its predecessor in every respect, but Samsung also does not save on innovations either, because the Samsung Z Fold 3 2021 smartphone comes with an under-display camera, a 120 Hz fast, and significantly brighter main display, and an optional S Pen.
In addition to the chic and surprisingly cheap Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G, Samsung has also introduced a new flagship with the Galaxy ZFold 3 5G, which is supposed to show what foldable smartphones are capable of. The design is very similar to its predecessor, but the case has been fundamentally redesigned so that it is more robust in every respect.
The back and the outside display are protected by extremely scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass Victus, while the folding display still uses Samsung’s Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG), but an improved protective film made of stretchable PET is supposed to make it 80 percent more robust. The frame is made of harder armor aluminum. The two new foldable from Samsung are the first waterproof folding phones in the world, and the manufacturer speaks of IPX8 certification.
A revised hinge should easily withstand 200,000 folding processes, not least thanks to a new “sweeper” technology that should keep dust away from the hinge. The Flex mode from the Galaxy Z Flip is also available in the new Fold so that the device can be placed half-open on a table, for example, to watch a video or have a video chat.
The heart of the Samsung Z Fold 3 2021 is the foldable AMOLED display, which has a diagonal of 7.6 inches, a frame rate of 120 Hz, and a resolution of 2,208 x 1,768 pixels. According to Samsung, the display is 29 percent brighter than the previous model, and also more energy-efficient. The screen is compatible with the separately available S Pen Fold Edition or with the S Pen Pro.
One of the great features of the Samsung Fold 3 2021 5G is the invisible selfie camera integrated into the display – a technology that is already known from the ZTE Axon 20 ( approx. 200 euros on Amazon ) or the brand new Xiaomi Mi Mix 4. Samsung installed a 1/3.1 inch sensor with a resolution of 4 megapixels and an aperture of f/1.9. If you close the device, you will find a 10 MP selfie camera with a 1/3.24 inch sensor in a punch hole in the 6.2-inch, 120 Hz external display.
On the back there is a pill-shaped camera module that houses three cameras, each offering a resolution of 12 MP. Including a wide-angle camera with an aperture of f/1.8 and a 1/1.76-inch sensor, an ultra-wide-angle camera with an aperture of f/2.2, and a sensor in 1/3.21-inch format, and a telephoto camera with an aperture of f/2.4 and a 1/3.6 inch sensor.
Apart from that, the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G is a commercially available flagship because Samsung has installed a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 with an integrated 5G modem and dual SIM, 12 GB of RAM, a fingerprint sensor, and a 4,400 mAh battery that can be powered via USB-C can be charged with 25 watts or wirelessly with 10 watts.
However, Samsung promises some improvements in the software, for example, that many apps from Google and Microsoft make optimal use of the folding display, while users save their app combinations and can thus access them quickly in multitasking. The smartphone is 6.4 millimeters thin, but when closed, the ZFold3 is not particularly compact with a depth of 16 mm and a weight of 271 grams.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G is now available to pre-order via Amzon.com and will be delivered from August 27th in Phantom Black, Phantom Green, and Phantom Silver colors. The model with 256GB of storage is offered for a recommended retail price of $1,799, while 512GB of storage costs $1,899.
