Along with the Gear Iconx 2018, Samsung also unveils a new range of wearable devices for the fitness lovers, including Gear Sport and Gear Fit2 Pro smartwatches at IFA 2017.
Samsung Gear Sport
Dimensions smaller than the past and minimal look, the Gear Sport features a 1.2 inch circular AMOLED Always On display with (360 x 360 pixels) resolution with pixel density of 302ppi and protected by Glass Gorilla Glass 3. The Tizen operating system with revised Interface, powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, 768MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. For connectivity, there are Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi b/g/n, NFC and GPS/Glonass/Beidou options.
The Gear Sport sports 5 ATM certifications for water resistance in up to 50-meters of water and has Speedo’s swimming training app Speedo On that lets you track key swim metrics including lap count, lap time, stroke type and more and is also MIL-STD-810G certified for durability. For sensors, there is Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate, Ambient Light, Barometer.
This is an ultra-rugged smartwatch weighs only 50 grams without a strap (interchangeable 20mm) and has a 300mAh battery that assures several days of usage time (wireless charging), of course, depending on a number of activities monitored. It is available in two colors: Black and Blue, but you can customize it further thanks to the 23 straps made of different materials. The Samsung Gear Sport price has been set at $417 and will be available in October.
Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro
For a more sporty audience, this fitness band is capable of tracking heart rate, swim and GPS tracking. Very different design, it has a 1.5-inch curved Super AMOLED display with (216 x 432 pixels, 310ppi) high resolution, a 1.0GHz dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM.
Internally, it does not change much from what we have already seen in Gear Sport, but the NFC functionality is missing here and the battery capacity 200mAh. It’s also running Tizen OS, 5 ATM certification 4GB of internal memory.
It is also MIL-STD-810G certified for durability so that it can handle a wide-range of environments. It also has Spotify with support for Offline mode. There is Gorilla Glass 3 protection on display and compatibility with Android and iOS devices. The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro price has been set at $199 and will be available from September in Black and Black with Red colors.
