Samsung Galaxy Watch4 with Wear OS 3.0, and Exciting Sensors

Samsung has presented its latest smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch4, which is optionally available as a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic version with a rotating bezel. The Samsung new watch 2021 is full of advanced technology, including a BioActive sensor, which can monitor the composition of the body, blood pressure, and blood oxygen, among other things.

In addition to the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2, Samsung has also introduced its most powerful smartwatch to date, the Samsung Galaxy 4 Watch. The smartwatch is based on a completely redesigned design, in which the round display is surrounded by an elegant aluminum housing, and two buttons are available for operation in addition to the touchscreen.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, on the other hand, uses a stainless steel case that has a slightly wider, but mechanically rotatable bezel that can be used, among other things, to scroll through messages and menus. The regular Samsung Smart Watch 4 uses a touch-sensitive bezel, similar to the Galaxy Watch Active2 (approx. $220 on Amazon).

In addition, Samsung offers the voice assistant Bixby as well as some gestures for controlling the Smartwatch, so that you can reject a call, for example, by turning your wrist twice. Instead of using Tizen as before, the Galaxy Watch4 relies on Google’s Wear OS 3.0, with the system being advertised as “Wear OS powered by Samsung”.

The user interface called One UI Watch 3.0 is also new and currently exclusive to the new smartwatch. Thanks to Wear OS, various practical apps are already available at launch, including Google Maps, Adidas Running, Strava, and Spotify, and others that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

The hardware has been fundamentally revised because the Galaxy Watch4 relies on the brand new Samsung Exynos W920, which, according to Samsung, offers a 20 percent faster CPU and a ten times faster graphics chip than the Exynos 9110 from older Galaxy Watch models. The RAM has been increased to 1.5 GB. Samsung has installed 16 GB of flash memory, of which only 7.6 GB are available for users to store apps, music, and photos on the watch.

The round Super AMOLED display in the smaller versions of the Smartwatch is 1.2 inches in size and equipped with a resolution of 396 x 396 pixels, the larger models come with a 1.36-inch screen with 450 x 450 pixels, in any case, protects Corning Gorilla Glass DX from scratches. An LTE modem with eSIM is optional. According to Samsung, the battery lasts 40 hours.

However, the most exciting feature of the Galaxy Watch4 is the BioActive sensor, which combines a whole range of exciting sensors. The smartwatch offers an EKG, a SpO2 sensor for measuring the oxygen content in the wearer’s blood, a blood pressure measurement, and also the possibility to determine the composition of the body, including details on the body water and body fat percentage. However, buyers should note that many of these features are only available in combination with a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, even if the Galaxy Watch4 is compatible with all Android smartphones, but not with the iPhone.

Various sport modes are also part of the range of functions such as sleep tracking with snore detection, the smartwatches, which are waterproof up to 5 ATM and certified according to IP68, are also suitable for swimming. A barometer, a compass, NFC for mobile payments, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) are standard equipment.
