Samsung launches new Galaxy Chromebook Go without any Fanfare

Samsung continued to launch its recent Windows-powered Galaxy Book Go with the new Galaxy Chromebook Go. Ironically, the new Samsung Galaxy Chromebook is powered by an Intel chip instead of the Arm-based Snapdragon that powers the Galaxy Book Go based on Windows 10.

Samsung has had some success lately with its laptop announcements. First, we saw the launch of the premium Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360 at the end of April, followed by the launch of the following Galaxy Book Go and Galaxy Book Go 5G models in June. While the first launch resulted in a Galaxy Unpacked event, the second was accompanied by a press release, which is not the case with the new Galaxy Chromebook Go, which has just appeared discreetly on the website of Samsung.

While the Galaxy Chromebook Go takes many design cues from the Book Go Galaxy models powered by Windows 10 on Arm, its specs suggest that it is a low-end device. Like the Galaxy Book Go, the Galaxy Chromebook Go centers around a 14-inch display. However, while the first model has a 1080p display, the Chromebook variant is content with a 720p panel. This generally corresponds to its target market, which will be mainly schoolchildren as well as it could be a handy secondary device for some people.

The device is powered by an Intel Celeron N4500 which, while aging, is still good enough to get the job done. It can be equipped with 4 or 8 GB of RAM, while it comes in three storage levels: 32, 64, and 128 GB. Unfortunately, all storage options are based on eMMC, which, well that less preferable than an SSD, is still better than a spinning disk. Connectivity, however, is solid with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 on board, along with two USB-C ports, a USB 3.2 port, a MicroSD slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is also an optional LTE model.

Price and availability

New Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go has been priced at $299 and is now available to pre-order on the Bhphotovideo.com website.
