Last year, electronics giant Samsung announced a glasses-free stereoscopic monitor called the Odyssey 3D. It has entered a UK pre-order phase, also known as the Samsung G90XF or LS27FG900X. Interested buyers can secure a 27-inch model for £1,899.99—although a 32-inch version was also planned.
The official product page reveals a wealth of new details about the Samsung Odyssey 3D, so we’ll take a closer look at the key specs of the 27-inch monitor below. The IPS model can display 3D content without special glasses and output it via stereoscopy. An integrated stereo camera records the user’s eye movements to adjust the 3D display dynamically, ensuring optimal 3D viewing.
Regular 2D content, such as videos, can be output in stereoscopic 3D using AI functionality – except for content with HDR or DRM. The so-called Reality Hub offers a wide selection of native 3D media, including games. The Samsung G90XF’s internal 5-watt speakers support spatial audio, creating a virtual surround soundscape. The built-in IPS panel has a 3840×2160 4K UHD resolution at a maximum refresh rate of 165 Hz, covers 99 percent of the sRGB color space, and promises a 1 ms grayscale transition. The monitor also supports HDR10+ Gaming, FreeSync Premium, and a picture-in-picture mode.
The interface offering includes two HDMI 2.1 inputs, a DisplayPort 1.4, and a USB 3.1 hub. Auto Source Switch+ eliminates switching between signal sources when multiple devices are connected manually. Ergonomic features include tilt, height adjustment (120 mm), pivot, VESA mounting (100 x 100 mm), blue light filtering, and flicker-free backlighting. The Odyssey 3D, also known as the Samsung G90XF, has a typical power consumption of 34 watts and, for a high-performance 3D display, requires at least an Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 1700X processor and 32 GB of RAM.
