Sony RX100 VII With 20.1MP Sensor Pre-Orders Go Live: Price, Specifications, and Availability

Sony continues to release the 7th generation RX100 camera after introducing the A7R IV camera series. Based on the RX100 VI version, Sony introduced the Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII super-compact camera with some of Alpha 9’s technologies such as 20fps blackout-free shooting with Real-time Tracking and Real-time Eye AF for humans and animals. The most valuable addition of this model is a standard 3.5mm microphone input full in favor of vloggers.

Basically, the Sony RX100 VII still has a 20.1MP image sensor. Sony said it uses the new generation 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor with DRAM chip and latest-generation BIONZ X image processor. The previous RX100 VI, which was capable of shooting up to 24 fps, now reduced to 20 fps, but improving the blackout-free shooting for a completely live view, even when continuous shooting at 20fps; the same experience as the Alpha 9.

The RX100 VII offers a world-leading 357 focal-plane phase-detection AF points and 425 contrast-detection AF points. In addition, thanks to a newly optimized lens drive control, the world’s fastest 0.02 sec AF acquisition time is realized. A major leap in AF/AE tracking performance during continuous shooting means the camera performs AF/AE calculations up to 60 times per second and captures fast-moving action at 20fps with AF/AE tracking, ensuring that each moment is shot with swift and accurate focus.

In addition to shooting 20fps, the Single Burst Shooting mode can capture 7 shots in one shot from 90fps, 60fps or 30fps with an electronic shutter. In terms of video recording, Sony has not yet added 60fps to 4K, but they continue to improve the 4K Active SteadyShot that is 8x more effective than 4K Standard SteadyShot. The additional noticeable thing is the 3.5mm jack that supports microphones, which the RX100 series lacks.
