Roland VERSELAB MV-1: All-in-one Music Production Desk with ZEN

You can be producing music with the new device completely without a DAW. And that from beats, melody lines to vocal recordings. The hardware, which weighs just over 1 kg, even includes a looper, so that you can certainly use it very well for live performances.

We had already mentioned several such products recently such as Akai MPC Live II and Native Instruments Machine+. This is exactly the concept that Roland is now following with their new VERSELAB MV-1 Music Production desk, with which you can write songs without a computer, tablet, or DAW. And of course professionally with modern synthesizers, loops, and audio recordings via the microphone connection.

The user interface is reminiscent of a groove box with 16 trigger pads and a TR step sequencer. This controls the note entries. You can create up to seven instrument tracks and one vocal track per song. The steps of the sequencer can be up to 128 steps long. On the back, you can connect your microphone and supply it with power.

Another audio source can be connected on the input side. Effects (including auto-pitch, harmonizer, and doubler), pitch, and time stretching for post-processing are also on board. Of course, Roland also provided the sound. Here you can build the powerful 128-voice sound generator based on ZEN-Core into your songs. And that means legendary Roland sounds of the highest quality without end.

In the demonstration video, you can see impressively how you can achieve the goal, i.e. the finished song and arrangement, quite effectively with the hardware. The small display is certainly unusual for some. But of course, that can also be an advantage so that you don’t get distracted by graphics and work on the essentials, i.e. the sound and the song. But you can connect your computer or tablet via USB to exchange sounds and MIDI.

The device is measuring 354 x 208 x 60 mm (W x H x D) and weighs 1.165 kg. On the connection side, you have two headphone outputs (jack and mini-jack), line input and output (L / R jack each), an XLR microphone input (including 48 V phantom power ), MIDI input and output, the connection for USB ( for audio and MIDI) and the power supply unit are available. It can also be accessed via USB (and a Power bank). Besides, the hardware has an integrated microphone, 16 trigger pads, 16 step sequencer buttons, further parameter buttons, and a two-line display. 3000 sound presets and 80 drum kits are also included.
