Rokinon has announced the high-aperture zoom lens: Rokinon 35-150mm F2-2.8. The lens is available for Sony E-mount full-frame cameras and should cover a wide range of shooting scenarios, from portraits to travel.
The new lens received support for hybrid autofocus available in Sony cameras, eye autofocus, direct manual focus, and autofocus assist.
The manufacturer calls the lens “surprisingly versatile” due to its wide range of focal lengths and fast aperture. It is designed for photographers who want to work with one primary lens rather than changing lenses.
The red ring on the Rokinon AF 35-150mm F2-2.8 FE lens barrel indicates that it belongs to Rokinon ‘s new premium optics segment. At the same time, the body itself has become stronger due to the use of metal in its construction.
There is a zoom lock switch that allows you to set the focal length to 35mm and thus ensure safe transport of the lens.
The optical design of the lens includes 21 elements in 18 groups. Of these, 12 are special optical elements, due to which the lens demonstrates high optical performance from wide-angle to telephoto. The manufacturer also says that the optics provide “superb edge-to-edge sharpness.”
It also uses Ultra Multi-technology to minimize flare and ghosting. F2 Aperture on a full-frame camera will greatly blur the background and separate the main subject due to the shallow depth of field. The nine-bladed diaphragm produces clear and natural bokeh, according to Rokinon.
There are switches and function buttons on the lens barrel. In mode 2, the focus ring will control the aperture (in the AF position). In mode 3 – you can use the “Dolly Shot” function. It means that the lens will keep the focus on the subject when zoomed in, reproducing a well-known cinematic technique.
The minimum focusing distance of the Rokinon 35-150mm F2-2.8 depends on the selected focal length: at 35mm it will be 33cm, and at 150mm it will be 85cm. The lens is protected from dust, moisture, and particles.
