Rokinon 24-70mm f2.8 AF Zoom Lens with E-mount

Samyang Optics announces its first zoom lens, the Rokinon 24-70mm f2.8 with Sony E-mount, which is designed for mirrorless Sony full-frame and APS-C cameras. With this first EF zoom lens, Samyang Optics also celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Samyang has developed an all-in-one zoom lens that is equally suitable for photos and videos, with some functions specially optimized for video recordings added to the lens.

The lens is characterized by several functions that have been specially optimized for video recordings. First, the Par-Focal function is optimized for video recordings, keeps the subject exactly in focus when zooming in and out.

With the Cinematic Video AF the AF speed is controlled very carefully during video recordings, so that focus fluctuations are reduced, and very stable video recordings result. It also has a Linear MF focus control, the torque of the focus ring is particularly precisely controlled when recording video in manual mode, which means that manual focusing accuracy is achieved as with a fixed focal length.

A Samyang ‘Cine Kit’ is a separately available accessory set, consisting of a focus gear, follow focus and tripod mount. It enables even more precise and accurate focusing – especially with video recordings. With a focal length of 24 to 70 mm, the full format image angle of 53 ° to 86 ° (APS-C 36 ° to 62 °) with a continuous largest aperture of 1: 2.8. It can handle most photographic tasks with ease.

For an optimal correction of optical errors, Samyang decided on a complex construction with 17 lenses in 14 groups (2 ASP, 1 H-ASP, 3 HR, and 3 ED). The optical properties are precisely matched to the full-format image sensor from Sony.

With the constant initial aperture of 2.8, a smooth and effective background blur is achieved with a full aperture. This efficiently separates the subject from the background and uses a shallow depth of field to capture a unique image with an ultra-wide-angle in which the background is compressed. The 9 aperture blades create a smooth and natural bokeh.

The autofocus follows the subject precisely and quickly and works with the Linear STM (Stepping Motor) from Samyang quietly and smoothly even when recording videos. For example, a user-defined switch can be used to set the focus ring to regulate the aperture. With the optional Lens Station, this mode can be set up as required. Further functions will be added in the future through firmware updates.

The shortest distance setting is only 35 cm, which enables close-ups and interesting perspectives. The lens is suitable for all weather conditions. It features a micro-textured rubber focus ring that is nice to the touch, and the weather seal also protects the lens from light rain, snow, and dust.
