Rokinon has become the third significant optics manufacturer to release an autofocus lens for Canon RF cameras. We are talking about the APS-C format, but given the small number of original autofocus lenses for cameras of this system, options from Sigma, Tamron, and now Rokinon are already quite a few. South Korean manufacturer introduced the Rokinon 12mm F2 Canon RF lens.

The company calls this lens ideal for landscape, architectural, and night photography due to its high aperture ratio and 96.8-degree viewing angle on APS-C cameras. At the same time, the lens turned out to be relatively compact even with the proprietary hood installed (included).
At the same time, the technically new Rokinon 12mm f2 can be mounted on a full-frame Canon camera, but in this case, vignetting may be observed in the frame.
The new Rokinon 12mm landscape lens has a focal length equivalent to 18mm on a full-frame camera. Optically, it consists of 12 elements arranged in 10 groups. These include two aspherical elements, one of which is an “H-ASP” element and three ED elements.
Rokinon says the new landscape photography lens’s optical design effectively minimizes chromatic aberration, distortion, and other optical flaws. It features a seven-blade aperture, which Samyang promises will produce smooth, natural bokeh.
The new Rokinon 12mm f2 RF-S prime lens weighs 213 grams and is 57.2 mm long. Its filter thread diameter is 62 mm, and its barrel diameter is 70 mm. The lens has a weather-sealed body with four points of protection, including a bayonet mount to prevent dust, light rain, and snow from entering.
According to the manufacturer’s press release, the lens is equipped with Rokinon’s Linear STM (stepper motor) focusing system. As a result, the autofocus system operates with both precision and silence.
Rokinon 12mm f2 Canon RF price and release date
The optics are available for pre-order on Bhphotovideo at $449.
The lens is versatile for both stills and video shooting. It includes an MF/AF (manual focus and autofocus) control switch on the body, allowing users to switch focus modes without accessing the camera’s menu.

Also, a Tamron 11-20mm F/2.8 lens costs $659 and is among the wide-angle lenses for Canon RF-S.
