The Light & Motion has introduced hybrid reflex lighting devices under the StellaPro Reflex and Reflex S brands, which are constant video light and flash units in one housing. The development of modern mirrorless cameras, which offer amazing opportunities for shooting both stills and videos, would inevitably lead to the release of such outdoor motion light devices, and they will become more and more every day, and hopefully, they will become more affordable.
The presentation of the Reflex and Reflex S outdoor motion sensor lights looks better, at least the technical information is given in full detail. Both sensor lights outdoor models, Reflex and Reflex S have an IP65 degree of protection, which means that they are not afraid of dust and light rain, so you can take them with you to the open air, and in theory, nothing happens to them if you fall from a stand from a height of 1 m, although when something worth $ 800 falls off the rack, it’s not good at all. Both models are D-Tap compatible and accept Bowens, Chimera, and Profoto light modifiers.
The main difference between Reflex and Reflex S is the flash duration and burst speed. The Reflex is equipped with Digital Burst technology, delivering up to 10 fps with flash durations up to 5 ms (1/200 second). The Reflex S allows continuous shooting up to 20 fps with a flash duration of 1 ms (1 / 1000th of a second). Luminous flux 18,000 lumens (approx. 64,000 lux at 1 m) in continuous mode and 9,000 lumens (approx. 32,000 lux at 1 m) when used as video light. Light quality TLCI 93, CRI 92, temperature 5600 K.
The main power interface is USB-C, and it will require a 100-watt USB-C PD charger to get full power. Light & Motion offers a cable included. Battery charge time: 2 hours using a 45W USB-C charger. An iOS-only app is available for product registration and firmware updates.
Price and availability
The StellaPro Reflex lighting retails for $849.99, the Reflex S for $1,096, and the spare batteries cost $300 on Bhphotovideo.com, Adorama.com, and Amazon.com websites. The outdoor motion light device comes with only 2 Type-C cables, 10 cm, and 60 cm, all adapters for installing modifiers will have to be purchased additionally, while the price for such adapters is approaching a hundred dollars, making all this pleasure somehow not at all budgetary.
Last week, Nanlite has also announced a new compact Monolight kit – the Nanlite Forza 150. Continuous studio lighting with a larger body has more power and a single-ended plug that is easy to install and lock into the power socket.
