Canon DP-V1830 18.4 inch 4K Reference Monitor for Video Professionals

Canon has announced the market launch of the portable HDR reference monitor DP-V1830, which impresses with its 4K image reproduction and serves the growing demand for 4K HDR productions. This 18.4 inch or 46.9 cm UHD monitor was developed to display rich and natural colors.

The award-winning tools for advanced HDR image control support demanding production teams with the detailed information required for accurate image analysis. The Canon DP-V1830 is relatively light at 7.5 kg and is perfect for broadcasting, in the OB van and HDR image control on set.

This 18 inch 4K HDR reference monitor offers a brightness of 1,000 cd/m2 in full-screen mode and impresses with lively, high-quality color rendering. Thanks to Canon’s advanced display technology, the DP-V1830 meets the demanding requirements of HDR broadcasting and color matching in post-production with consistently bright, uniform performance and a large color gamut. With an ultra-low black value of 0.001 cd/m. and Canon’s advanced backlight system, this monitor delivers flawless HDR performance and color accuracy that meets Dolby Vision certification and the EBU TECH33201 “Class 1A” standard. (The “Class 1A” rating was achieved for contrast ratio, peak luminance, black level, luminance uniformity, and delay time.)

In addition to the smooth reproduction of images from this reference monitor, the DP-V1830 has the award-winning Canon HDR monitoring tools such as HDR waveform monitor and false colors, which enable detailed image analysis for production teams. In addition to traditional HDR image control functions, this device has groundbreaking new tools such as pixel value checkers, display of colors out of color space/maximum and minimum luminance, and a direct HDR/SDR comparison display that provides detailed information on every aspect of the signal.

The DP-V1830 has a wide range of connection options for easy integration into existing workflows. With four 12G-SDI inputs, four 12G-SDI outputs, and one HDMI input, this Canon monitor is capable of 4K 60p 4: 2: 2 10-bit or 4K 30p 4: 4: 4 12-bit signals to represent. In addition, it even supports 8K high-resolution and is also geared to the requirements of the content of the future. The DP-V1830 supports simultaneous display of up to 4K in a dual or quad array – this is perfect for productions with multiple cameras. It has a robust but compact design, narrow frame, and comparatively low weight of approx. 7.5 kg, the DP-V1830 is also suitable for spontaneous use in a mobile team.

The DP-V1830 has the new processor concept, with which there is the possibility of increasing the performance of the display via future exclusive firmware updates. Canon plans to release firmware in summer 2022 that will enable RGB parade waveform monitoring and input switching via the multi-function SDI output. This feature will be available as a paid upgrade.

Further features will follow and are currently under development. To enable better visibility and control of the image quality, the upgrade includes adaptations for the dual/quad display, which allow the user to apply individual LUTs to each input, as well as a CIE standard color table that shows the color distribution over the entire image.

The Canon DP-V1830 reference monitor is now available to pre-order via the Bhphotovideo.com website for $14,299 and will go on sale in the first quarter of 2022.

Last month, Canon announced the release of a new CCTV camera – PowerShot PX, which is positioned, among other things, as a video surveillance tool for creating memorable photos and videos.
