Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Gaming setup for Minecraft fans

The Creeper in Minecraft is so famous that it has become one of the game’s most iconic symbols and a part of popular culture. Even though you hate it when it goes around destroying villages and its unpredictable behavior, you have to admit that Creeper has made Minecraft more interesting. The latest Razer Minecraft Edition collection is also complete with Creeper.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on

Razer often collaborates with many brands, especially gaming brands. After PUBG, Overwatch, Fortnite, and Minecraft, it’s a brand that needs a set because of its popularity. This is also how Razer keeps fans and attracts new users. This Minecraft gaming accessories set includes four items: a Blackwidow V4 X keyboard, a Kraken V4 X gaming headset, a Cobra wired mouse, and a Gigantus V2 mouse pad, all designed with green tones, Minecraft’s characteristic pixel patterns, and a Creeper’s face.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: First Impression

Blackwidow V4 X Minecraft Edition

The BlackWidow V4 X is the most affordable version of the BlackWidow V4 series, and Razer often selects the X version for collaboration models. In the Blackwidow V4 generation, Razer has significantly upgraded the sound and typing experience by adding sound-absorbing foam and pre-lubricated stabs. The layout of the full-size Blackwidow V4 X series features an additional macro row and a volume control roller, similar to the Death Stalker V2, rather than the rotary knob found on the older V3 series.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Blackwidow V4 X

The cheaper V4 X version has some cuts compared to the V4 Pro, such as a polling rate that does not reach 8000Hz and the absence of 2-strip backlighting, although it still supports RGB Chroma on each key. Additionally, it lacks a Command Dial and multimedia buttons, and the manufacturer does not include a wristrest. However, the Blackwidow V4 X version is more than enough for casual gaming needs or non-competitive titles.

The Minecraft PC gear theme, centered around the Creeper character, gives the BlackWidow V4 X an impressive look with a Grass block–printed plate and a set of green LED-lit keycaps. The key’s finish is relatively high, and the details on the plate are very sharp. The ABS doubleshot keycap has a rough surface, but the contact feels good and does not get shiny from sweaty hands.

The BlackWidow V4 X Minecraft Edition only offers the Razer Green Gen3 switch option, a clicky switch with a distinctive sound. This type of switch features a translucent housing design with a square stem (box stem) and a spherical mirror LED diffuser, enhancing the lighting effect. The Razer Green Gen3 features a bottom-out travel of 4 mm, activating at 1.9 mm and resetting at 1.5 mm, with a pressing force of 50 g. With a relatively deep pressing force and activation point, the Razer Green Gen3 is suitable for typing and playing slow, non-competitive, fun games.

A pre-built keyboard inclined to collect and display, I do not expect sound and typing feel, but compared to previous Razer keys, the typing feel of the Blackwidow V4 X is very commendable. The Stab is pre-lubed by Razer; it is pretty smooth, but the sound is difficult to appreciate, especially when combined with the clicky switch combo and plastic case.

The rest of the Creeper keyboard features a rope-wrapped cable, a convenient cable slot on the bottom, and a double kickstand with two tilt angles. I think that with the Razer Minecraft Edition, we can find Minecraft-themed keycap sets or mix them with keycaps that have the same colors as the blocks in the game to make them more unique and beautiful.

Cobra Minecraft Edition

Cobra Minecraft Edition is the wired version of Razer Cobra. Many consider it the replacement for the now-discontinued Viper Mini. It measures 120 x 63 x 38 mm and weighs 57.3 g—about 1 g lighter than the Viper Mini and nearly 20 g lighter than the wireless Cobra Pro. The Creeper mouse is small, comfortable to hold, easy to control, and very suitable for those who prefer a fingertip or claw grip.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Cobra

The designers gave Cobra an optimal weight orientation, so even though it looks similar to the Cobra Pro, it has fewer buttons, lacks rubber grips on both sides, and features a rough surface like the Viper Mini to improve grip.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Cobra

The back of the Cobra Minecraft Edition is printed in detail, and a Creeper face is also featured on the left mouse button. The scroll wheel rolls smoothly in 24 steps and has a good tactile feel. This Razer Minecraft Edition still has RGB Chroma lights in the Razer logo and an ambient light strip at the bottom. Razer equips the two main mouse buttons with Optical Gen3 switches, which offer high sensitivity, eliminate debounce delay, and reduce the risk of double-clicking—unlike mechanical switches.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Cobra

Razer equips the wired Cobra version with an 8500 dpi sensor—essentially the PixArt PAW3349—which features a speed of 300 IPS and a maximum polling rate of 1000 Hz. The LoD of this sensor is 1.2 mm, while the PAW 3359 of the Viper Mini has the exact parameters of 8500 dpi/300 IPS, but the LoD is 2.4 mm. The low LoD (Lift-of-Distance) setting is ideal for trying out high FPS games. The performance of this sensor, as demonstrated through my experience with various games, shows that it is flawless, with accuracy remaining very high. Razer has equipped the Cobra with PTFE feet, a feature standard on its mice for many years.

Gigantus V2 Minecraft Edition

Gigantus V2 comes in various sizes, but only size M is available for this Razer Minecraft Edition. Size M is 360 x 275 mm, 3 mm thick. For most regular users and Minecraft fans with a gaming setup, size M is sufficient and easy to carry if needed.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Gigantus V2

Gigantus is a versatile mousepad line featuring a cloth surface that strikes a balance between speed and control, neither as pure as the Gloliathus line nor as extreme as hard pads like Sphex, Firefly, or Alcari. This makes Gigantus suitable for many games; FPS is good, but RPG and MOBA are also good. The thickness of 3mm is almost the standard for gaming mousepads today because this thickness makes the mousepad stable, creating a uniform surface on the table and providing a feeling of precise mouse control and movement.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Gigantus V2

The bottom of the mousepad features a honeycomb rubber layer for a good grip, particularly on glass surfaces. I use a rough tabletop, but it still doesn’t move when I move the mouse quickly.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Gigantus V2

The standard Gigantus V2 comes only in black, but the Razer Minecraft Edition offers a more visually appealing and unique look. Its white design also hides sweat and dirt marks better than the black version. Previously, in the Gigantus V1 generation, Razer had sewn edges; the V2 does not have sewn edges, so it will not easily fray, as shown in the picture.

Razer’s Gigantus V2 Minecraft Edition is listed at $29.99 on Amazon US and £29.99 on Amazon UK.

Kraken V4 X Minecraft Edition

After many years of using Razer and being a fan of the brand, I must admit that Razer’s headphones are not up to par. I have used the first-generation Kraken, Electra, Blackshark, Opus, and Nari, but I have only kept the Nari Ultimate so far due to its superior sound quality. Kraken V4 is the latest generation of Kraken. Razer has attempted to improve the company’s most popular headphone line, aiming to eliminate hollow sound and a lack of depth. The company has partially achieved this goal.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Kraken V4 X

The Kraken V4 X is the cheapest version of the Kraken V4 line. Razer equips it with a 40 mm TriForce driver featuring a 3-component design that better reproduces the mid, treble, and bass ranges, thereby providing a sound experience that Razer advertises as “full-spectrum.” This is accompanied by 7.1 THX sound simulation software.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Kraken V4 X

The Kraken V4 X has relatively good sound quality; the mid and high ranges are straightforward and not confusing, but the bass is lacking. The Kraken V4 X is suitable for gaming, but for those who prefer EDM music or, like me, listen to dance and electronic music by artists like Pantyraid, Nigel Stanford, and Daft Punk, the Kraken V4 X produces a sound that is too boring.

For FPS games or many games that require hearing footsteps or sounds to gain a competitive advantage, the Kraken V4 X is sufficient. However, for games that demand explosive experiences or epic background music, I do not highly appreciate the capabilities of the Kraken V4 X.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Kraken V4 X

The rest is the design of the Razer Minecraft Edition, which looks interesting, a bit like a toy. The green headband of the headset features Minecraft motifs, including the Creeper’s face. You can pull out the ear cups in 8 notches, and the headband is less tight and hard than in the previous generation, which makes it more comfortable to wear and causes less pain during extended use. The weight of the headset is only 310g, significantly lighter than the Nari Ultimate I often use (430g), so it feels light and very comfortable when worn.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Kraken V4 X

Razer uses breathable fabric on the outside of the ear cushions on the Kraken V4 generation, and they fill the inside with Memory Foam Cushions—unlike the Kraken V3 generation, which uses heat-conducting faux leather material. Razer should have equipped this feature a long time ago because faux leather doesn’t last and easily peels off over time. There is also a Creeper image peeking out from the inside of the ear cushions.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Kraken V4 X

A small but beautiful detail on the Kraken V4 X is that the signal wire is twisted, similar to a telephone wire, a style also applied to custom mechanical keyboard cables. The purpose is that when we pull the earcup out, the signal wire is not stretched and is less likely to break. On the earcup, there are two buttons: one to mute the microphone and a knob to adjust the volume.

Razer Minecraft Edition Hands-on: Kraken V4 X

The built-in microphone on the Kraken V4 X is an omnidirectional microphone with a sensitivity range of 100 Hz to 10 kHz. The microphone cable is made very flexible. There is a status light on the microphone; when off, it shows a red light. When not in use, the microphone can be retracted deep into the headset for compactness.

The rest of the Kraken V4 X features the Chroma RGB Razer logo on the outside of the earcups and a rubberized, tangle-free cable that utilizes a USB-C connection, accompanied by a USB-A adapter.
