LG Eclair Compact Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer, Dolby Atmos, and DTS: X

LG has announced the new QP5 Eclair soundbar, it differs from the rest of the 2020 range of the Korean brand due to its very small size. The LG soundbar with subwoofer system consists of the central body, the actual soundbar, and an external wireless subwoofer.

LG Eclair measures 296 x 59.9 x 126mm while the wireless subwoofer occupies 388 x 291 x 185mm. To better understand these numbers just think that the 296 millimeters in width correspond to a third of the SP8YA, the LG model that previously held the smallest soundbar palm.

It is a product capable of adapting even to smaller spaces while still offering a piece of equipment that is anything but meager. The design is characterized by rounded lines and a jersey fabric finish available in two colors: white or black.

The size reduction did not prevent the integration of a configuration capable of supporting “object-oriented” audio formats, those capable of expanding involvement even vertically. Eclair is equipped with 3.1.2 channels: inside the soundbar, we find the classic left and right, a central for the dialogues, and two channels facing upwards.

The amplification section supplies 20 W for all the channels present in QP5 plus 220 W for the subwoofer (320 W total). The supported formats are very numerous and include among others LPCM, Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution, DTS: X, FLAC (up to 192 kHz), OGG (up to 48 kHz), WAV, MP3, WMA, and AAC.

The tuning involved Meridian once again, which has been working with LG for some time to optimize the sound of some products. Meridian has developed Horizon technology, capable of processing stereo signals to offer a more immersive multi-channel experience; LG claims that this signal transformation does not compromise its original balance.

Connectivity includes Bluetooth 4.0, an optical digital input, a USB port, an HDMI input, and output with HDCP 2.3 and eARC, the advanced audio return channel capable of managing even lossless audio tracks. The HDMI input is compatible with Ultra HD, HDR10, and Dolby Vision resolution.

The Atmos soundbar can intervene on audio signals to improve them thanks to AI Sound Pro; this feature uses artificial intelligence to change settings based on genre, emphasizing voice, music, or engagement accordingly. Owners of an LG 2021 TV can apply the next level of processing via the TV Sound Mode Share feature, developed to take advantage of the ability of Alpha processors for AI Sound Pro.

LG Eclair price and availability

The new QP5 LG soundbar with subwoofer system has been priced at $596.99 and it is now available to pre-order via the Bhphotovideo.com online store. Availability is expected from September 2021.
