Canon has unveiled a new 17-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 printer. This professional office printer uses 12-pigment Lucia Pro II inks and delivers gallery-quality prints for home or studio use.
The imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 replaces the PRO-1000, one of the best photo printers on the market. Introduced nearly a decade ago, inkjet technology has advanced since then. The Canon PRO-1100 uses the brand-new Lucia Pro II PFI-4100 ink, which promises deeper black levels, richer blues (especially dark blues), and smoother color transitions.
The pigment inks are even more durable. Canon claims that photos printed on the PRO-1100 using archival media can last up to 200 years (the PRO-1000 promised 60 years). The new inks also have improved resistance to abrasion and scratches.
In addition to borderless printing on sheets of paper up to 17 x 25 inches (43 x 64 cm), the new professional quality printer also supports roll printing and allows for prints up to 3.28 meters long (the PRO-1000 could print up to 1.2 meters long). Note that the Canon PRO-1000 did not accept paper in the 7 x 10, 9 x 13, 12 x 12, or 13 x 19-inch sizes, while the PRO-1100 can. Like its predecessor, the new professional office printer accepts a wide range of art papers, including thick ones, and the manual feed tray accepts paper up to 0.7 mm thick. The maximum print resolution has not changed compared to its predecessor – 2400 x 1200 dpi.
The PRO-1100 also includes features common to professional printers for artists in this class. It offers Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB connectivity, a 3-inch LCD screen, and Canon’s dedicated Professional Print and Layout software.

The dimensions and weight of the imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 remain unchanged at 723 x 435 x 285 mm and 32.4 kg. Like all high-end professional printers, the Canon PRO-1100 is not intended for frequent movement.
