The QNAP TS-x62 series is based on a processor from Intel. Specifically, the Intel Celeron N4505 equipped with two computing cores is used, whereby it should be able to offer a clock frequency of up to 2.9 GHz in the turbo. The RAM of the TS-462 network storage device is two gigabytes, while the RAM of the TS-262 is twice as large at four gigabytes.

The TS-262 comes with two slots for mass storage, the TS-462 has four. Both 2.5″ and 3.5″ drive installation is supported. There are also two M.2 2280 slots for mounting SSDs, which can be connected via a PCIe Gen 3 lane. The M.2 SSDs are designed to speed up access to frequently used data through caching.

The connection to a network is via Ethernet – the private cloud storage NAS system models even support a data transmission rate of up to 2.5 gigabits. There are USB ports, which can be used to connect appropriate expansion housings. In addition, a PCIe slot is installed, which allows the installation of expansion cards.

There is also an HDMI 2.1 port on the device. It can be used for direct media playback, for example, if the NAS is set up in the living room next to a television. The QTS 5.0.1 operating system promises a wide range of functions, including photo management with AI support.

Private cloud storage price and availability

Both network storage devices are already available on Amazon.com, Bhphotovideo.com, and Amazon.co.uk websites. QNAP TS-262 asking for around $369, and the QNAP TS-462, which is equipped with four drive bays, is for $469. As usual, the prices do not include the necessary storage media.

Synology recently introduced the DS923+ NAS storage for home with a Ryzen processor and four drive bays. The range of functions goes far beyond pure data storage, so the network attached storage setup can also be used for virtualization. It has been priced at $599.99.
