The PocketBook company, which produces E-Book reader, has released a new InkPad Color (it was first announced in Russia as 740 Color) – a 7.8-inch PocketBook Reader that uses the latest E Ink color screen technology. Pocket Book announced that this is the first EBook Readers that can be purchased in the US and EU, equipped with the new Kaleido panel.
According to the company, the updated Kaleido has a different color filter pattern that offers better contrast and color saturation compared to the original Kaleido (also used in Apple Watch Series 6), which is still a fairly new technology. PocketBook also reported that the screen refresh rate has been improved by software.
The characteristics of the new Kaleido panel on the new bookreader are otherwise similar to those of the previous generation: the resolution of 300 dpi for monochrome content and 100 dpi for displaying colors, the number of displayed shades is 4096. The total screen resolution has been increased to 1404 × 1872 due to the larger physical size. The new PocketBook reader weighs 225 grams and is 8mm thick, so the device should be reasonably portable.
Pocketbook InkPad Color Features:
- 16 GB of internal memory
- MicroSD card slot
- Dimensions 195 × 136.5 × 8 mm
- Battery 2900 mAh
- Built-in dictionary ABBYY Lingvo (24 language combinations)
- Speech synthesis in English (15 additional languages are available for free download from pocketbook.ru )
- Bluetooth for connecting headphones
- USB-C port for charging and headphones (plus 3.5mm audio adapter)
In past, many people praised the color screen technology of the previous 6-inch PocketBook Color reader, but at the same time noted the display size was too small for reading magazines and comics (the most obvious use for a color e-book). A larger and better display can make the InkPad Color a much more useful device.
PocketBook InkPad Color is already available in the US on Amazon.com for $329.
