The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is significantly thinner than the first-generation Pixel Fold, but the waterproof foldable should still perform better. However, the slimming treatment also compromises the cameras and the battery.
In addition to the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro XL, Google also announced the successor to the Pixel Fold. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is just 5.1 millimeters thick and comes to 10.5 millimeters when closed, making the device 0.7 and 1.6 millimeters thinner than its predecessor.
To accomplish this, Google had to redesign the product and make some compromises. The battery has shrunk from 4,821 mAh to 4,650 mAh, but wireless charging is still possible. The 10.5 MP ultra-wide-angle camera uses a slightly smaller 1/3.4 inch sensor, and the 10.8 MP f/3.1 telephoto camera with five-fold zoom also has to make do with a slightly smaller 1/3.2 inch sensor. The 48 MP f/1.7 main camera has a 1/2 inch sensor, just like its predecessor, but it is still downright tiny compared to the main camera on the Pixel 9 Pro.
Google has equipped the main and secondary displays with a 10-megapixel f/2.2 selfie camera. The 6.3-inch secondary display in 20:9 format achieves an HDR peak brightness of 2,700 nits and a frame rate of 120 Hz, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects the screen from scratches. The foldable panel achieves a frame rate of 120 Hz, a full-surface brightness of 1,600 nits, and an HDR peak brightness of 2,700 nits.
Prices and release date
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold can now be pre-ordered in the Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk online stores, with delivery expected to begin on September 4th. The folding flagship with 256 GB of storage typically costs £1,749, but during the pre-order period, you can get the 512 GB variant for the same price. Anyone who orders the device by September 5th will receive the storage upgrade for free. Amazon UK is also offering early buyers £300 OFF during purchase.
Inside the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, you’ll find the new Google Tensor G4, which is paired with 16 GB of RAM. Additionally, the smartphone runs on Android 14 and will receive operating system updates and security patches for seven years. Moreover, the device features a fingerprint sensor, a fast USB-C 3.2 port, a nano-SIM slot, and an eSIM.
