Last week Philips had introduced the OLED803 4K Ultra HD Android TV with HDR10+ and now the company also announced new Smart TV platform called SAPHI, which stands for Speed Agility Performance Heritage Integration.
Philips SAPHI will replace Android TV on the Ultra HD and Full HD TVs of the company’s 5000 and 6000 series. The system is Linux-based and comes with a revamped interface designed to be fast and responsive.
The simplification should prevent the lag and slowdowns on products, precisely the Philips 5000 and 6000 series. For this type of products, it is not rare that the user experience is not very pleasant. The cause is to be found in hardware platforms that are not able to easily manage all operations.
The SAPHI Home Page allows you to quickly access live TV channels (via built-in tuners), applications, settings, all connected sources (HDMI, USB and local network) and allows you to search. The apps are those in the Philips catalog, now grouped together for greater convenience.
There are services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Deezer, and YouTube. The latter supports HDR streaming and allows you to view all HDR videos with use of VP9.2. Support for Miracast makes it easy to share content via mobile devices.
