Philips has expanded its TV range with the launch of the PUS9104 series at IFA 2018. Philips PUS9104 will consist of a 55-inch (55PUS9104) and a 65-inch (65PUS9104). The panels are IPS LCD LED Edge with Nano Color technology. This is the homolog solution of the LG Nano Cell. This proprietary solution uses nano-particles (about 1 nanometer in diameter) to filter the light emitted by the LCD panels. Nano Color absorbs unwanted wavelengths, returning purer red and green color components.
The ultimate goal is the same as Quantum Dot: to represent more saturated and natural colors. The combined contribution of Nano Cell (more effectively reduces the reflections generated by light in the environment) and the IPS LCD panels ensures greater color fidelity on a wider viewing angle. LG declares a practically perfect reproduction of colors up to a 60-degree angle.
We find support for HDR10, HLG, HDR10+ and HbbTV standards. The DCI-P3 color space coverage is 90%. For the management of moving images is entrusted to the 2900 Picture Performance Index (PPI). The “smart” platform is made up of Android TV Oreo and is managed by a quad-core processor combined with 16GB of storage. Philips proprietary technology Ambilight is also available.
All video processing is entrusted to the second generation P5 Picture Perfect processor. This enhanced version adds Perfect Natural Reality technology, an algorithm developed to enhance standard SDR images and simulate the effect guaranteed by HDR content. The TV constantly analyzes the images and evaluates how to increase the brightness, sharpness and contrast ratio.
The audio section uses a Triple-Ring woofer and a double passive radiator on the back, while the two tweeters are located on the underside. The Philips PUS9104 series is scheduled for 2019.
