Philips products are hard to miss. Because the new Philips Momentum 558M1RY is a proud 55 inches (139.7 cm diagonal). What many have in their living room as television is intended here as a PC monitor for gamers and professional users.

The VA panel in 16:9 format has a 4K resolution that repeats at 120 Hz via the display port. As an alternative to the display port, there are three HDMI 2.0b connections on the back. However, only 4K at 60 Hz is possible here (in accordance with the HDMI standard). The new HDMI 2.1, which also allows 120 Hz at 4K, is unfortunately not offered. There is also a USB hub with four USB-A 3.2 Gen1 ports for peripherals and the like.

The 558M1RY 4k monitor gaming is HDR1000-certified and achieves a peak brightness of 1200 cd/m². According to the manufacturer, the standard brightness is 750 cd/m². For gamers, the response time of the screen is important. With the Philips 558M1RY, this is 4ms and therefore is in the good range that is suitable for games. Professional users, on the other hand, are more interested in color space coverage. The new Philips HDR display covers 95 percent of the DCI P3 color space and around 125 percent of the SRGB color space. Delta E is below 2 so that the device can be described as quite color-accurate. Interesting: Thanks to a picture-in-picture mode, two sources can be displayed at the same time.

The Philips 558M1RY gaming monitor 4K not only scores with its sheer size and panel. The other equipment is also impressive. A 2.1 soundbar from Bowers & Wilkins is integrated under the HDR display. It is equipped with two satellites, each with two tweeters and two central drivers with 10 watts, and a subwoofer with 20 watts. That should take a long time for an appropriate sound when gaming or for background music when working.

On the back, Philips installed Ambiglow on three sides. This is the 120hz gaming monitor counterpart to the better-known Ambilight of Philips TVs. This ensures that the background lighting is color-matched to the content displayed on the screen. The height of the Philips 558M1RY is unfortunately not adjustable, but it can be tilted from -5 to +10 degrees.

Philips Momentum 558M1RY price and availability

And what does it all cost? The price of the Philips 558M1RY is $1,499.99 on Amazon.com. This is quite cheap for the size of the PC monitor since there are significantly more expensive alternatives on the market such as the LG UltraGear 34GP83A-B, which is sold for $1,175.
