Ricoh Imaging brings PENTAX-D FA 21mm f2.4 ED Limited series DC WR Lens

In its Limited series, the Ricoh Imaging Company introduced the Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA 21mm f2.4 ED Limited DC WR as the first lens in the D FA series. It is tailored to the special properties of the digital 35 mm full-frame SLR cameras and offers a particularly large angle of view for interesting perspectives and large overview shots.

Following the design concept of the Limited series, according to Pentax, subjects at a great distance were equally important, such as Landscapes, “to deliver clear and high-resolution images, right into the edge areas, but at the same time to achieve a unique image reproduction at close range”. When the aperture is open, the new wide-angle lens should produce a balanced blurring effect in the background (bokeh), while it shows the main subject in focus. In addition, the eight-blade rounded diaphragm is responsible for ensuring that there is no scattering from point light sources and that light rays are reproduced naturally.

The lens barrel, the built-in lens hood, and the cover are made of aluminum for an attractive appearance. The engraving of a depth of field scale, as well as a special, clearly perceptible insertion mark for changing lenses without having to look or in the dark, round off the construction.

The DC autofocus motor (Direct Current Motor) is located in the lens and ensures a smooth, fast and precise distance setting. With the QSF/A (Quick-Shift Focus System) for the immediate change to manual focus mode after the subject has been sharply captured by the camera’s autofocus system, the photographer is constantly in control and can refocus if necessary.

The optical structure of the lens consists of four optical ED glass elements (extra-low dispersion), which minimize the chromatic aberrations and prevent the colors from bleeding, not only in the main focus area but also in the surrounding defocused areas. The construction is not least due to a glass element with high refractive power in the first lens group, designed to keep the overall size small and compact despite the large shooting angle. The lens elements of this lens are provided with the multilayer HD (High Definition) coating developed by Pentax. It offers up to 50% higher light transmission with low reflection compared to conventional coatings. This enables a high level of contrast and sharpness without stray light and ghosting, even under difficult conditions.

The new PENTAX-D FA 21mm f2.4 ED Limited DC WR is equipped with an electromagnetic shutter control, which in combination with compatible digital SLR cameras (Pentax K-3 Mark III, Pentax K-3 II, Pentax K-3, Pentax KP, Pentax K-70, Pentax K-50, Pentax K-S2, Pentax K-S1, Pentax K-1 Mark II, and Pentax K-1) ensures precise exposure control. This exposure control should be a big advantage, especially with video recordings and strong fluctuations in brightness.

The PENTAX-D FA 21mm f2.4 ED Limited DC WR lens is designed as a WR (Weather Resistant) model and a dust and weatherproof construction that prevents water and dust particles from penetrating the inside of the lens. To ensure this, the lens is provided with six special sealing rings that prevent moisture and dust from penetrating the lens interior. It means that the lens can also be used in rain, fog, splashing water, or sub-zero temperatures down to –10 ° C. The front lens is also provided with the Super-Protect (SP) coating. It reduces dirt and moisture adhesion and makes cleaning easier, for example. B. from splashing water or greasy substances.
