Peavey Invective MH Mini Amplifier with Wide range of Functions

The Peavey invective MH guitar amplifier is once again the result of the collaboration between Misha Mansoor and the US manufacturer. It’s a stripped-down mini amplifier version of the 120-watt tube amps – but not in terms of functionality. In fact, the new little one is crammed full of useful features.

In 2016, Peavey and Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor teamed up to create the all-tube high-gain monster invective 120 with a matching 2 × 12. The result was presented at NAMM 2017. Now a boiled 20-watt version follows, which still has all kinds of practical functions.

The 9.3 kg light dwarf contains three 12AX7 / ECC83 tube amps and two EL84 power amp tubes. This allows the Misha Mansoor Mini Head concentrated tube power, which can be throttled to useful 5 watts or 1 watt if desired. That sounds like a versatile guitar amplifier for at home, in the studio, and on stage.

In contrast to the original three-channel, you get two channels. But the cuts have been cleverly implemented. In addition to the clean channel with 2-band EQ, the Peavey has a lead channel with all kinds of practical options. It is based on the legendary 6505, the forefather of modern hi-gain sounds. There are controls for pre-and post-gain, as well as a 3-band EQ, a noise gate, a tight switch, and a boost in tube screamer style (Misha’s preferred TS setting). The front is rounded off by Master Resonance and Master Presence.

The rear is no less extensively equipped. For recording scenarios, the top part was given an XLR output with analog speaker simulation. The SPKR button switches off the loudspeaker output, the mini amplifier then hangs its load on an internal dummy load so that you can practice relaxed via the headphone connection or record without external loudspeakers. Thanks to the USB socket, you can even record directly into your DAW.

On top of that. You set the output power with a small slide switch (20 watts, 5 watts or even 1 watt are possible). An effects loop and two connections for footswitches (channel / tight and boost + gate/loop) are also available. That’s a lot of functions for such a compact top, don’t you think so?

The tube amps feature Peavey’s TSI (Tube Status Indication) technology. This is a built-in circuit that monitors the output stages and diagnoses any problems. If everything is okay, the two LEDs on the right above the standby and power switch turn green. If either or both are red, that particular tube is either over or undercurrent, which means it is not working well and may need servicing or replacement.

Peavey Invective MH price and availability

Peavey invective MH mini amplifier has been priced at $699.99 and is now available to buy on the Amazon.com website.

Recently, Cambridge Audio has announced the DacMagic 200M, a digital to analog converter (DAC) that doubles as a headphone amplifier has a minimalist design, and is priced at $499.
