Panasonic Lumix S 85mm F1.8 Announced: Bright and Compact Portrait Lens

With the Lumix S 85mm F1.8 (S-S85), Panasonic is introducing a fast lens with a medium telephoto fixed focal length that is particularly suitable for portrait photography thanks to its angle of view and bokeh. The Panasonic Lumix S 85mm F1.8 is the first of four announced lenses with a luminous intensity of 1: 1.8, which expands the L-Mount system for the mirrorless full-frame cameras of the Lumix S series.

The four F1.8 lenses have a common size and position of the operating parts in order to offer practical advantages in use – from the uniform operation of the attachment of accessories. Thanks to the same diameter, filters can also be used together.

The Lumix S 85mm F1.8 offers high flexibility and mobility thanks to its compact size (approx. 8.2 cm) and its low weight (approx. 355g). It is also characterized by dust and splash-resistant design and can be used at temperatures as low as -10° C under the most adverse conditions. The filter diameter is 67 mm and its 9 diaphragm blades provide an attractive bokeh effect with smooth sharpness-unsharpness transitions as well as around image of point light sources with minimal vignetting.

The lens consists of nine elements in eight groups and uses two ED elements (Extra-low Dispersion) to suppress both the axial chromatic aberration and the chromatic difference in magnification. The new 85mm F1.8 also guarantees high-quality video recording by minimizing focus breathing as much as possible.
