This updated version is only sold in Europe. If you already have the Lumix GH4 on hand, you will have to pay $99/ €99 / £79 to update this new feature. V-Log L is designed similar to the standard Cineon, which is a characteristic curve for film digitalization. With this new GH4 V Log L Profile, a device can Increases dynamic range from 10 stops to 12 stops. The recorded content will contain a lot of information and have a huge potential to postproduction and add effects processors. If the former GH4 restricted video length at 29:59 then this restriction has now been dismantled and you can shoot for as long as you like. How to update old Panasonic GH4 V-Log Profile:

  • Purchase the upgrade kit DMW-SFU1 from HERE ($99)
  • Download and update to latest Panasonic GH4 Firmware version V2.3 from HERE
  • Export the camera’s serial number to an SD Memory Card by inserting the SD card into the camera and press [Menu] -> [Setup] -> [Activate] -> [Export Serial Code] to save serial code as “SERIAL.LST” file.
  • Upload the SERIAL.LST file by inserting the SD card into your computer. From the Update Portal Web Page use BROWSE to find and select “SERIAL.LST” file on the SD card. “SERIAL.LST” is saved in folder of PRIVATE > PANA_GRP > PAVC > LUMIX > ACTV > “SERIAL.LST then press [Upload] to proceed.
  • Enter “Key Code” from the kit that you purchased and click “Register”
  • The system will be processed to create the activation code for your device and will create the file “ACTIVE.LST” for download, Save this file to the SD card in the folder PRIVATE > PANA_GRP > PAVC > LUMIX > ACTV.
  • Plug the card into the device (remember to fully charge the battery) and press [Menu] -> [Setup] -> [Activate] -> [Import Activation Code] after rebooting, you will find the V-log L in the “Photo Style”.
