The optical design of the new Aspherical lens has 16 elements in 11 groups (1 aspherical element, 3 ED lenses, and 1 UHR element), which effectively suppress axial chromatic aberration and provide a compact size and lightweight, the minimum shooting distance is 0.28 m at 25 mm AF and 0.31m at 50mm, maximum shooting magnification 0.21x (35mm format equivalent 0.42x).

The lens also packs a linear AF motor, and an internal focusing system delivers quick and quiet focusing performance along with virtually no focus breathing throughout the focusing range from 11″ to infinity. The focus clutch mechanism allows for intuitive switching between AF and MF modes, simply by sliding the focusing ring, and if paired with select Lumix cameras, Focus Ring Control can be used to tune the focus rotation feeling.

The diameter of the thread for installing the light filters is 77 mm, the overall dimensions are Ø87.6×127.6 mm, and the weight is 654 g. The robust design provides resistance to dust, splashes, low temperatures for intensive use in the field.
