OWC computing has launched a new Thunderbolt 3 Mini Dock that will utilize the full capacity of your Mac or PC’s Thunderbolt 3 port, allowing you to have faster data transfer, dual 4K display support, and even charging a smaller device using its 5 ports on the go.
Two 4K displays can be operated at 60 Hz, USB ports and Ethernet provide additional flexibility. The OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock ($292 on Amazon) already offer a variety of connections, but you need a socket nearby to use it. With the new Thunderbolt 3 Mini Dock, OWC does without some ports, but you can save the power adapter to use the dock with a notebook on the go.
In total, the Thunder bolt Mini Dock offers 5 ports: 1x USB-A 3.0, 1x USB-A 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and 2x HDMI 2.0 connections. The latter is particularly exciting because they enable the connection of a total of two 4K monitors that can be operated with a resolution of up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz.
The OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock Mini is compatible with both Windows PCs and Macs as long as they have a corresponding connection. The 18 cm long cable is firmly integrated into the dock so that you cannot forget it at home, but it is not possible to replace it in the event of a defect. The Thunderbolt USB-C dock itself is made of aluminum. With the OWC Dock Ejector software, all connected hard drives can be ejected with just one click.
Price and availability
The OWC Thunderbolt 3 Mini Dock will be available from July 27 at a price of $119 and it can be pre-ordered through the Bhphotovideo.com online store.
Back in May this year, OWC has made available the 4TB PCIe NVMe SSD: Aura P12 M.2 NVMe SSD, which are used in OWC Envoy Pro EX Thunderbolt 3 ports and USB-C external drives, as well as in ThunderBlade and Accelsior 4M2 storage devices, which are now offered with up to 16 TB of capacity.
