OWC announced the Mercury Pro U.2 Dual device, which enables high-performance desktop storage with U.2 SSDs.
The SSD storage box is endowed with two drive bays in the form factor of 2.5 or 3.5 inches. Formation of arrays RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD is allowed. The maximum internal storage capacity is 16 TB in a 2 × 8 TB configuration.
The Mercury Pro U.2 Dual is powered by up to eight NVMe SSDs, so you can edit high-res files on the fly, ingest and duplicate dailies without a hitch, rip through the tightest of timelines, and backup huge music and photo libraries in a flash. While it offers blazingly fast performance with massive storage capacity, this compact solution is small enough to easily fit on a DIT cart, in a rack, or on your desktop.
The device is equipped with two Thunderbolt 3 ports based on the Intel JHL6540 controller. You can connect a 5K or 4K monitor with a refresh rate of up to 60 Hz.
The solution is said to provide transfer rates of up to 2800 MB/s. Compatibility with computers running Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS operating systems is guaranteed.
Dimensions are 147 x 239 x 85 mm, weight is approximately 1.5 kg. An active cooling system based on a 60 mm fan with a rotation speed of up to 3000 rpm is used.
