OWC launches Envoy Express Thunderbolt 3 box for M.2 NVMe SSD

OWC computing has launched an M.2 NVMe SSD drive with the Thunderbolt 3 interface called Envoy Express. Not only is it the first compact M.2 drive box that meets the Thunderbolt standard for high-speed access, but it also has a very smart design, removable cable, but a cable-like design attached to the box.

OWC is not a new name for Mac users because it specializes in providing high-quality upgrade solutions and accessories for Apple computers. With this Envoy Express, OWC emphasizes the ease of DIY and is the first Thunderbolt 3 Bus-Powered Enclosure for M.2 NVMe SSD to meet Thunderbolt standards. You can take advantage of the M.2 NVMe storage, or buy a drive according to the size of the box with the access speed OWC says is up to 1553 MB/s for practical tasks – this company tests with the OWC Aura Pro P12 2TB drive on the late 2017 iMac Pro and ran the AJA System Test with a sample of a 16GB 4K 10bit RGB file.

OWC Envoy Express supports all M.2 NVMe SSD form 2280 drives, weighs only 93.5 grams, and has a 25 cm long cable attached. Interestingly, this cable is a 2-pin USB-C cable, but the other end is attached to the USB-C port on the box’s board, the entire header is then wrapped in a drive and held in place by the chassis. This drive is surrounded by a cable but can be replaced when needed. We see this cable is exactly the same cable that Belkin Thunderbolt 3 is using. The solution that hides the end of the cable in the drive will ensure: there is always a cable available to use and keep the USB-C connector safe, no need to unplug many times and can customize the cable to your liking.

In addition, OWC has an accessory to attach this drive to the MacBook. There is a plastic tray that is applied with a special glue to help us attach it to the cover when peeling off, there is no glue and can be reused.

Price and availability

The price of the OWC Envoy Express box for M.2 NVMe SSD is $79.99, and it can be purchased through the Bhphotovideo.com store.

Other World Computing has also introduced the Thunderbolt 3 Mini Dock that will utilize the full capacity of your Mac or PC’s Thunderbolt 3 port, allowing you to have faster data transfer, dual 4K display support, and even charging a smaller device using its 5 ports on the go.
