OWC launches Accelsior 4M2 PCIe 3.0 M.2 NVMe SSD for Mac Pro

The SSD drive on Mac Pro can be removed but cannot be replaced because it comes with a T2 security chip on each device. The solution to expanding high-speed storage on this device is to use PCIe slots with SSD add-in cards. Apple is offering an 8TB PCIe 3.0 SSD option but costs $2600. Another thing that is too expensive is cheaper and the cheapest option is to use a 3rd party drive from the OWC Computing.

OWC – Other World Computing is a company specializing in upgrading solutions for Apple products such as RAM, SSD and the company has just introduced the Accelsior SSD line for Apple Mac Pro 2019. It reaches data transfer speeds of up to 6000 MB/s while Apple’s main upgrade option is only 3400 MB/s. OWC says the drive will be ideal for those who need to store and handle large video formats, VR / AR / MR content, and other high bandwidth tasks.

Besides Mac Pro 2019, Accelsior 4M2 is also compatible with the 2010/2012 Mac Pro series and PC because it still uses the PCIe interface and will need 8 lanes. In fact, inside each Accelsior 4M2 drive will be multiple M.2 NVMe drives at full x4 PCIe speeds, set up in RAID 0. PCIe 3.0 drives are cooled by a fairly thick heatsink plate to ensure stable performance.

In addition, the Accelsior 4M2 PCIe NVMe SSD costs just $1,599.75 for the 8TB version, which is $1,000 cheaper than Apple’s 8-TB drive. In addition, OWC’s Accelsior 4M2 drive series also has lower capacity options such as 1TB for $480, 2TB for $630, 4TB option for $950, and al these versions are available to buy on Bhphotovideo.com store.
