Olympus TG-5 Compact Rugged Camera with 4K video, GPS Announced

Olympus has announced the Tough TG-5 camera, a newcomer to the compact rugged camera family. The company designs the Olympus TG-5 for outdoor shooting with tracking capabilities even in the most extreme conditions.

The Olympus Stylus Tough TG-5 excels in extreme conditions, including waterproof to up to 15 meters, crushproof to up to 100 kilograms of force, shockproof from 2.1 meters, freezeproof down to 14°F (-10°C) and dustproof, and now it includes Anti-Fog Lens Cover Glass.

The BSI CMOS 1 / 2.3″ sensor with a resolution of 12-megapixels and handle by the latest TruePic VIII Image Processor, combined with a Field Sensor System, consisting of a GPS sensor, manometer, compass and temperature sensor, records movement and environmental data independently or in conjunction with still images or videos. The camera also uses the Olympus Image Track app to simultaneously display images, videos, and tracking information, lets users tell the story behind their shots. The f/2-4.9 lens with a 25–100mm focal length. The construction also includes DSA (Dual Super Aspherical), HD (High Dispersion) and HR (High Refractive Index) lenses to deliver high-quality images while reducing aberrations throughout the entire zoom range.

A maximum ISO sensitivity from 100 to 12800 and RAW capture are also available, covering a wide range of shooting situations. The TG-5 is also capable of recording Ultra HD resolution video up to 30 frames per second (the bit rate is 102 Mbps). Of course, you can select other resolutions, such as the Full HD at 60fps, and it is also possible to record (1280 x 720 pixels) at 120 frames per second (for achieving slow-motion effects). It completes with the 3.0″ display with a resolution of 460,000 dots.

For connectivity, includes a USB 2.0 port, a micro HDMI and Wi-Fi (the camera can also be controlled remotely via its official app). The Olympus TG-5 price in USA is about $449 and will be available from June.
