Numark Mixstream Pro DJ Controller: Engine, Streaming & Lighting

Numark Mixstream is the first DJ controller outside the Denon Prime range with integrated EngineOS. For the first time, the Numark Mixstream Pro uses an integrated speaker system that allows you to mix without any PA system and listen to tracks without putting on headphones and the like.

The new Numark DJ Controller also supports WiFi connectivity, so now you can stream your favorite music (Tidal, Beatport, Beatsource, Soundcloud) directly to the integrated WiFi interface. You can also use existing libraries from Traktor, Serato, and Rekordbox, which makes it easier to get started, switch or cross-platform DJ-ing, or your Dropbox connection.

The central high-resolution 7-inch display enables extremely successful navigation through the database and shows waveforms, lists, crates, and preferences. Engine 2.0 even comes with an automix deck for the automatic mixing of playlists and also offers lighting control via numerous shortcuts. DMX is available via the SoundSwitch interface, Phillips Hue is natively supported. It means that nothing is standing in the way of the light-staged DJ streaming channel from the living room, even with small cutlery.

Mixstream Pro has two USB inputs and an SD card slot for external media drives as well as a USB interface for the computer. To output, the sum signal/master, XLR, and cinch outputs were installed. Headphones (6.3 mm and 3.5 mm) and a microphone can be found in the front.

It is played on two decks, equipped with a mixer, three-band EQ, large filter knobs, 6.5-inch jog wheels, manual beatmatch options, auto-sync, pad sections (cue, saved loop, auto loop, roll), and effects (Echo, Flanger, Delay and Phaser) with toggle switches.

The knowledgeable buyer will soon get hold of this layout. Especially, since the control and command options are logically accessible through the display. In addition to waveforms and libraries in the new control center, you also get access to the settings and the user profile along with a recording function.

The Lighting Setups Basic and Pro, which have been added to Engine 2.0 and give you extensive control over DMX and smart lights, should also be popular. You can use it (either via DMX / WDMX-SoundSwitch Kosmos or WiFi) to fire a beat-synchronized light show at the touch of a finger, operate color changes, strobes, loops, and the like. You can also export automatically / manually generated SoundSwitch light shows to a USB drive or SD card and control the DMX lighting via the Mixstream Pro’s touchscreen. No laptop is required.

In any case, our first impression is positive. The Numark Mixstream Pro is reasonably compact and flexible, can also be operated intuitively, and the bottom line appears to be a successful all-in-one solution, not just for beginners. Even if an integrated battery and a hard drive compartment would have been two icing on the cake.

Whether there will be support from Serato, Virtual DJ, or Algoriddim cannot be foreseen at the time of writing these lines. That would of course be great.
