Marantz Receiver has updated its all new slim AV receiver profiles with the launch of the NR1508 and NR1608. Both new Marantz receivers feature slim box designs and overall thinness is about 6.8 inches only. The Marantz NR1508 is capable of driving up to 5.2 channels, rated at 50W per channel (8 ohms, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, 0:08% THD). While the Marantz NR1608 is a 7.2 channels AV receiver, similar 50W for each (8 ohms, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, 0:08% THD). Both support all the major sound formats, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. While the NR1608 also adds Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, with configurations up to 5.1.2 channels.
Both Marantz receivers are equipped with wide connectivity, including Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth; support for AirPlay and HEOS wireless multiroom integration (Marantz is part of the same group). There is Audyssey MultEQ for automatic calibration and NR1608 also sport the Audyssey MultEQ Editor app. The digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is used to play songs in PCM up to 192kHz / 24-bit and DSD up to 536MHz. Supported formats (from the local network or USB) are MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, and DSD. By connecting to the network you can listen to online radio or streaming services such as Soundcloud, Tidal, Amazon, Spotify, Pandora, Napster, Deezer, iHeartRadio and SiriusXM.
As for the video, Marantz NR1608 is fully compatible with the latest HDMI and HDCP 2.2 specifications on all 8 HDMI inputs. Both come with the latest 4K Ultra HD video specification, including 60 Hz full rate content, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling, BT.2020, HDR and Dolby Vision compatibility. It’s also HDCP 2.2 compliant, for 4K Ultra HD copy-protected content. HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) pass-through for future HDR broadcast content will be supported via a firmware update.
For ports, there are 6 HDMI inputs (1 front) with full HDCP 2.2 support on NR1508, while 8 HDMI inputs (1 front) on NR1608. Both receivers also support Smart TV connectivity, means possible to control them using the TV’s remote handset.
