Turning your Nintendo Switch into the Classic Arcade Cabinet complete with modified Joy-Con is now possible: of course, everything is made of cardboard, in perfect Nintendo Labo style. The company Nyko has introduced its new project called PixelQuest Arcade Kit and based on the popular Nintendo Labo toy-con.
The kit allows you to build, assembling the various cardboard shapes included in the package, turns a Switch into a two-player real arcade cabinet. It even uses the Switch’s detachable Joy-Con controllers as arcade-style buttons. The mechanical button remapping enables the shoulder buttons of the Joy-Con to be pressed just like traditional arcade buttons.
Unfortunately, you can not take advantage of the arcade cabinet to play all types of game, as Niko’s product has been designed to guarantee a true two-player arcade experience and as a result, you will only play with Switch titles – both single player and multiplayer which, however, provide for the use of only one Joy-Con per player.
PixelQuest Arcade Kit – despite this particular – is still a very interesting and original product considering, especially the launch price of just $19.99 without forgetting that, as the philosophy of Nintendo Labo teaches, the greatest fun lies in the assembly phase.
Retro gaming enthusiasts cannot miss it, especially after the announcement that Donkey Kong Arcade and Sky Skipper, two iconic titles from the 80s, are ready for Nintendo Switch. PixelQuest Arcade Kit should debut in the fall months, meanwhile, you can check out other interesting Nintendo Labo Toy kits on Amazon US and Amazon UK starts from $9.99.
