NIKKOR Z 800mm f6.3 VR S Super-Telephoto for Nikon Z Cameras

In mid-December 2021, Nikon announced the development of the super-telephoto lens NIKKOR Z 800mm f6.3 VR S for full-frame cameras, which, with its 800mm, marks the top of the focal length range in the Z series NIKKOR lenses. It has now been presented with all the technical details and its market launch has been promised for the end of April 2022. It offers fast, precise, and quiet autofocus. Thanks to a PF lens, the overall length is shorter, and the weight is lower than usual.

Nikon introduces the uniquely handy full-frame Nikon telephoto lens. Whether it’s birds, wildlife, airplanes, or scenes from motoring and winter sports – with this robust and remarkably light lens photographers capture the dynamics of distant subjects with fascinating clarity. Even at 800mm, erratically moving subjects can be tracked smoothly, and creative possibilities are expanded with reliable handheld shooting.

From eagles on the hunt to airplanes on display, the phenomenal resolving power of this lens brings out the finest details in difficult-to-photograph subjects. The image quality is pin-sharp, regardless of whether it is a photo or video. The autofocus works extraordinarily quickly, evenly, and reliably and the optical image stabilizer in the lens ensures blur-free shots. When used with the Z 9, Image Stabilization allows exposure times to be increased by up to 5.5 stops. In addition, this super-telephoto lens supports Z teleconverters, so the range can be extended to 1120mm or 1600mm.

The balanced and lightweight design enabled by the Z mount and a phased Fresnel (PF) lens allows users to safely detach the Z 800mm from a tripod and shoot handheld. It is approximately 2.3 kg lighter and 16% shorter than its F bayonet counterpart. The center of gravity is closer to the camera body, making it easier to pan and stop. Photographers can customize the controls. The powerful weather seal protects the lens and camera.

Price and availability

The Nikon NIKKOR Z 800mm f6.3 VR S lens is expected to be commercially available from late April 2022. It is available to pre-order via Bhphotovideo.com and Adorama.com at a recommended retail price of $6,496.95.
