New TC-1.4x and TC-2.0x Nikon Teleconverters for Z Series announced

Nikon is expanding its Z-series with the first two Z-Teleconverters TC-1.4x and TC-2.0x, which offer new possibilities for Nikon Z series mirrorless camera users by extending their focal lengths. The announcement of the two Nikon Teleconverters was made simultaneously with the new Nikon Z5 and the Nikkor Z 24-50mm lens.

Nikon Teleconverters

These lightweight Teleconverters are great tools for those photographing sports, wildlife, and aviation, where photographers can now get their subjects closer without having to buy another lens with them. The first and only lens to date that is compatible with these new Nikon Teleconverters is the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S, but with the continuous expansion of the NIKKOR-Z lens series, more lenses will be available for the Z-Teleconverters in the future will be suitable.

Featuring the same robust construction as NIKKOR Z lenses, the teleconverters are designed with a fluorine coating on the front and rear elements to resist dirt and smudges and offer a durable, weather-sealed body to protect against the elements. The new teleconverters allow Nikon Z series cameras to retain functionality on all focus points up to f/11, making it easy to focus on and track subjects throughout the entire frame.

The autofocus of the Nikon-Z series and the image stabilizer also ensure precision and speed. From now on, users can use their telephoto zoom lens as a super-telephoto or increase the range of fixed focal length lenses in the future.

TC-1.4x and TC-2.0x

The Nikon TC-1.4x extends the focal length range of compatible NIKKOR-Z lenses by 40%, the Nikon TC-2.0x extends the focal length range of compatible NIKKOR-Z lenses by 100%. Their advanced optical design ensures sharp, high-resolution images with a light intensity that is reduced by one or two light levels, depending on the teleconverter used.

Price and availability

The Nikon Z-Teleconverter TC-1.4x and the Z-Teleconverter TC-2.0x both will be available in late August 2020. The recommended retail price for the TC-1.4x is $546.95, and it can be pre-ordered via the Bhphotovideo.com online store.
