Synology RackStation RS3621RPxs, RS3621xs+ and RS4021xs+ NAS Enclosure Introduced

Synology recently introduced RackStation RS3621RPxs, RS3621xs+, and RS4021xs+ NAS Enclosure solutions for rack mounting. The first two are 2U high, and the third is 3U. According to the manufacturer, new NAS Synology units are designed for small and medium-sized businesses, and high-performance solutions for backup, versatile, video surveillance, and remote work.

NAS Synology RackStation RS3621RPxs

The RS3621RPxs and RS3621xs+ each have 12 drive bays, while the RS4021xs+ has 16 drive bays. Next-generation Synology RackStation storage benefits include an integrated backup power supply. The storage is based on Intel Xeon processors. In the case of RS3621RPxs, this is a six-core processor, while for the other two models, eight-core processors are selected. The memory capacity of RS3621RPxs and RS3621xs+ is 8 GB. The RS4021xs+ NAS Synology storage has 16 GB. In all cases, the memory is expandable up to 64 GB.

The difference between the models can trace in the means of network connection. Each of them has four 1GbE ports, but RS3621xs+ and RS4021xs+ additionally have two 10GbE ports. The configuration can be expanded with two PCIe Gen 3.0 x8 slots.

All three Synology RackStation units offer significant performance improvements compared with prior generation units. The RS3621RPxs delivers 68% higher, the RS3621xs+ delivers 50% higher, and the RS4021xs+ delivers 21% higher random read IOPS than their respective predecessors.

Synology RackStation RS3621RPxs, RS3621xs+, and RS4021xs+ are now available to buy on the Bhphotovideo.com and Amazon.com online webshops at starting pricing of $3,399,99.

Recently, QNAP Systems has also introduced the TS-h973AX QuTS network storage. It is interesting in that it has a 9-bay drive, five of which are for 3.5″ devices, and four for 2.5″ devices. All 9-bay support SATA 6Gb/s storage, and two of the 2.5” drive bays also support U.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 3 x4 drives. The total storage capacity can be expanded using a variety of expansion chassis offered by QNAP, and priced at $1000.
