Synology’s DS923+ is a new NAS storage for home with a Ryzen processor and four drive bays. The range of functions goes far beyond pure data storage, so the network attached storage setup can also be used for virtualization.
Synology has officially announced a new NAS enclosure storage device with the DS923+. This new Synology DiskStation system is not based on the Intel platform, instead, the AMD Ryzen Embedded R1600 is used. It is a dual-core processor with a maximum clock frequency of 3.10 GHz. Up to four threads can be processed simultaneously. The NAS storage for home is actively ventilated, which could benefit performance development. When delivered, a four gigabyte RAM is used, which can be expanded to up to 32 gigabytes.
Four drive bays are available. These take hard drives in 3.5-inch format, but as usual, 2.5-inch SSDs and hard drives can also be installed. As with a higher-quality network attached storage setup from Synology, the installation of two NVMe SSDs is also planned, which is intended to increase the performance of the systems through caching.
As usual, the configuration options are extensive, but this is primarily due to the Disk Station Manager used. The software not only allows the extensive configuration of data backup systems but also supports virtualization. Two Gigabit Ethernet ports are installed, plus two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and one eSATA port. A stronger network connection can be retrofitted via the PCIe connection. However, the equipment does not include an HDMI connection, which would allow media stored on the NAS to be played back directly.

The Synology DS923+ NAS Enclosure system has been priced at $599.99, and it can be pre-ordered via Amazon.com and Bhphotovideo.com online stores.
Qnap recently introduced two network-attached storage systems from the TS-x64 family, which offer a fast network connection and PCIe for up to three SSDs. The Qnap TS-464 and TS-664 NAS devices are powered by quad-core processors from Intel’s frugal Jasper Lake family. And its pricing starts from $600.
